Went to SFO for some spotting just after noon and a DL 777-200LR departed 28L (I think). Apparently headed for SEA. It looked like they didn't even use 4,000 feet of the runway.

Anyone know what that was all about?

Must have been an equipment upgrade for some reason

Ah, so it wasn't to SEA. That makes more sense.

Aircraft was N709DN. Looks like it went over to Asia and stayed there since 4/23 and did NRT-SFO today on its way back to ATL.

Weird...why wouldn't they just route it through LAX?

That is odd

What difference does it make whether it's routed via LAX, SFO, PDX or SEA? The 744 to LAX turns around and goes back to NRT, so why not SFO?

Weird thing is Flightaware is showing that NRT-SFO flight as a 767.

What's odd is that wasn't it supposed to be scheduled for LAX? or was this some sort of repositioning flight?

777's aren't sked between NRT-LAX until mid June.

Flightaware is incorrect many time as far as equip used....ship registration# is the true indicator.

SFO is frequently to route a/c back to ATL. There was a A330 subbed last week as well. Same routing NRT-SFO-ATL

That must have been a nice change for the NRT- SFO route. Do they offer the same J seating on the 777 compared to the 763?

Also, did they use the 28s for departure?

Thanks for the posting and spotting.

The 77L have the herringbone lie flat seats.
So it is a different product.

The J products are very different. The old 763 configuration is a 2x2x2 recliner configuration while the 777 has a 1x2x1 herringbone flat-bed configuration. Quite an upgrade!

Also the 777 has PTVs in coach, while the 767 does not (unless it's an refurbed bird)
