Hey All--

We had a post about WN in STL and the future, that is still going on, so you're more then welcome to keep that going only for the Southwest side in STL. I will update some WN news and routes here too, but only because of STL as a whole...

First news-NEW WEBSITE! www.flystl.com has released a new design and change. Takes getting used to but I hope it is friendly to the customers and passengers checking out STL Website.

Gate Switches--US Airways Rumor of moving to C Gates True?

http://www.flystl.com/Airlines/AirlineInformation.aspx

US Airways

www.usairways.com
Phone: (800) 428-4322

Gate: A15, A16, A17,
C16, C18, C24 Hmmmh interesting...

STL saw a strong surge of passenger traffic...

(St. Louis) Lambert-St. Louis International Airport recorded a healthy jump to the 2012 year with first quarter passenger
enplanements logged in at 1.4 million passengers for a year-to-date increase of 3.4 percent over 2011. Even stronger is
Lambert’s connecting traffic which is up 13 percent for the first quarter.

WN announced--
STL-LGA
STL-ATL
STL-ECP
and increase in STL-BOS

I think other carriers have remained stable?

Any updates or word of mouth we are hearing in STL?

Alex

Pretty interesting website. . . Not sure how the old one looked. There is one teensy-weensy problem however: not iPad friendly. I cannot scroll down-page to see what information is there on the iPad. Does STL have a mobile site?

The old one looked like it was put together by a howler monkey after a blow to the head. MAJOR improvement.

As I noted in the WN thread, STL-ECP is apparently seasonal and running for a fairly short time this year. The BOS increase ends in August, so possibly is also seasonal.

That is correct! All adds are seasonal in fact I looked to see if it was added as BOS-STL-ECP as a through flight since both are seasonal but it is in fact a connection instead.

Anyone want to add to the US Airways rumor of them moving to C Gates? I see it on their website as I posted so thought it was curious, and I wonder why considering UA is still in A, not that connections are generally done in STL between the two.

US Airways has three gates on the A. One on the north side of A between UA and CO. Two on the south side between UA and CO. The gate on the A north side is a newer jetway that the former station manager MISS B _ T CH had installed cost over $400,000 and it never worked properly. Moving to the C will give US Airways 3 gates together and let UA move some operations together. Also DL had 3-4 gates on the north side of A and NW had 2 on the south side. Not sure of how the realignment will workout. UA was approached about moving off the end of A but was not interested. With US Airways moving to the C this puts AA, US Airways and Cape Air in the new remodeled C. It will give some relief to UA and DL on the A.

. . . not to mention the A security checkpoint.

Can't blame them. It's a pretty compact operation out there with a lot of floor space (and seats) for the number of gates they have.

Is the United sign in the 80s Saul Bass font still there?

And Frontier too! So four airlines combined.

Ahh good point, every sunday evening the line is backed out into the bag claim areas, it's awful

I just flew into STL on United Sunday Night and did not see it, granted I was not looking for it either. The one I recall was hanging down the ceiling?

Interesting indeed Alex. Pre-emptive move for a potential merger with AA?? They chose the three gates adjacent to AA on the north side of C.

If this happens it will allow some shuffling on A between Delta and United.

And as always sir, thanks for the update

This is the one I believe, and this is not there anymore as of Sunday when I flew in on United.

Ahh good point, hadn't considered the merger rumors!

I doubt it's related to that, US is just using the next three gates on that side of C. It wouldn't make any sense to leave additional empty gates in between and force passengers to walk further (and away from most of the concessions) for no reason. I think the move itself is just a general attempt to relieve the crowding in A, things get very tight there during peak times. This will give UA and DL both more wiggle room and probably simplify RON parking (DL currently has planes sitting all over the place).

I think this was anticipated as part of the improvements to concourse C. Also, one of their current gates is the "bastard child" gate -- I believe its A16. I think HP flew out of that gate for years and it literally looked like it was neglected.

Either way, it makes sense for them to move. It'll breathe a bit of life into the concourse before Spirit comes to town.

I'm just speculating on Spirit, but given their expansion pace I think both Kansas City and St. Louis make sense as destinations to Ft Lauderdale.

That's all I've got....

That is true, I had been hearing about the US Flights moving to C as well before AA/US merger talks had sprung.

You're correct! A16 is the former America West gate, and is almost always the gate for the PHX Flights. I have flown out of A16 every time for my PHX flights on US Airways.

Interesting, I wouldn't mind it! STL-ORD-/DFW is out of the question? Just the way NK has been expanding so much out of ORD and DFW.

I could see FLL as well out of STL, WN only has 2 on and off.
