I am a United Airlines Mileage plus member. (Also valid for all star alliance partners).
No problems at all I always got the mileage that I deserved. I joined their program because I am a regular visitor to the USA.
Right now I have enough mileage for a one way upgrade to business class on my next UA flight to the USA......I am already looking forward to that experience.
Yes, I am one of those ordinary people that can't afford to fly Business class unless it's a business trip....

NZ's 'Air Points' programme is pretty good and quite accurate. You very rarely need to send in boarding cards and / or tickets to verify flights taken. But, they are getting a lot of flak here at the moment (in the newspapers etc) for making it difficult for people to redeem awards. For example, if you request an upgrade, they won't confirm it until check-in, so you have no idea whether you will be in economy or business until you check in. The reason is that they give priority to gold members. However, as a gold member, I'd rather all passengers have some certainty when they request upgrades than leave upgrade decisions until the last minute depending on whether gold members want to request a last minute upgrade.
