Saw this the other day on youtube. Thought it was kinda cool. Definitely shows a proud airline and I guess they have every right to be so. Does anyone know if this is actually a commercial or a development for social media? Produced by WS or independent? I would think produced by WS probably. If so I bet they could make a good match to some of the recent ads released by BA that I've been a big fan of. Good for business?

Well I've already answered one of my questions. It's obviously released by WS.

I'm not sure I understand what the point of "50 WestJetters built homes in the Dominican Republic" has to do with... anything. Thoughts?

I like the video. It's short but impactful. I don't know about you guys but it gives me a sense of confidence in the direction of the company, which is exactly what its intent is.

Can't go wrong with the HD shots of the 738 in flight either  Wink

The video was played at their AGM. It says so in the title.  Smile

1) They were there representing the company, on the company's dime

2) Social responsibility! It's expected for companies to be positive, active corporate citizens in the countries in which they operate. WesJet was "giving back to the community", of course they are going to make sure people know about it. You always try to market these things to boost your corporate image. Branding 101 my friend!

Oh, built homes for other people - Habitat for Humanity type of things?! I thought they were just bragging that 5 folks made enough cash to buys vacation homes, which seemed pretty stupid to me. Makes way more sense now.

Oh no, it was definitely a Habitat for Humanity type of deal. They were building homes for families in a poor village. I believe there is actually another video on there showing clips of them building the homes, including the before and after shots of the are they helped build. I know they publicized it quite a bit via social media.

Great video, but the cliche "roman epic" music ruined it for me. I find it just didn't fit with the imagery at all. Something a bit more cheerful or uplifting would've made it a stellar campaign.

It's a good in. Commercials are expensive to air and with social media and their employees sharing their vids on youtube and facebook their employees are really giving them some free advertising in a sense. Kind of like what Clive Beddoe said when he started the company. "Take care of your people and they'll take care of your guests". They not only take care of their guests as Canada's preferred airline and best in flight service in Canada but also in helping to brand the company and spread the word any way they can!

Hmm, the momentum bit reminded me of this commercial. Wonder who copied who.

You're kidding, right? That commercial, while good, doesn't even begin to approach BBH London's work for BA. It definitely looks in-house. Good corporate PR, bad advertising for television.

Hong Kong is not China. Not better or worse, just different.
