Any news/updates on the proposed LH 748i to BLR and DEL this summer?
IAD is the first destination, then it looks like ORD and LAX will follow and with the last deliveries in 2012 it will fly to BLR and DEL.
That is the latest news I have about the routes.

Can't wait for LH to start the 748 to BLR - should certainly beat the current Y product by miles . LH is certainly hurting in BLR due to the dated a/c they offer, it's unbelievable the number of folks who choose to fly say EK or CX due to the better "comfort and amenities in Economy" - aka IFE/ comfy seat.

Quoting wilco737 (Reply 4): es. That's what I heard as well, but recently it sounded more like #2 and #3 are LAX and ORd and DEL and BLR #4 and 5.
But not confirmed yet.
Yup, that has been the most accurate assessment.

Exactly. LH knows that it can't send an A380 into India, so the 748 is the best alternative. Interesting how they chose BLR over BOM.

I'm due to fly to BLR for business (in J), and although I'm a *A FF I won't be taking LH, I can tell you that much

So LH will be allow to fly the B748 to India, I though they were restricted to a max size of the B744, I know they wanted to use the A380, like EK but the Indian govt block them to a max size of the B744. maybe the restriction is for B747 generic and not to a model and I was mistanken.

I think if they do something in Mumbai it will be adding more freqs, maybe using the A330.
When is the upgrade of the fleet taking place?? are all the planes getting it??

I'm sitting in Bangalore as I write this. Yesterday I talked to someone in the know who said that LH 747-8i flights into BLR may start as soon as late August.

LH also does a lot of premium business into BLR, right, with all the IT and other outsourcing. 748i Product would be a nice advantage. I hope LH puts them on IAH, SFO and SIN too

How many 748s will they have until them?

Quoting aeroblogger (Reply 9): LH is restricted up to a 747, not a 744. Any 747 variant is permitted.
Any plane up to the size of the 747 and up to 400 seats. I speculate that LH and KE altered their 748 seating to be India bilateral compliant.

The IT audit teams buy an amazing amount of J class tickets. LH, by having a 'discounted J', seems to be in the right place of the market.

I just flew into BLR last month on LH in F and it really is high time they upgraded their rustbucket of a 744. The EK experience is better, and their timings are more user friendly.
