Heard about this on the local Shanghai news this evening; looked for it on the forum, but didn't find anything. I found the following article:

My rough translation:

China Southern flight encounters turbulence, lands at Shanghai; 9 injured

by Cheng Qi, Eastday reporter, 10 May 2012
According to Shanghai TV, this afternoon China Southern Airlines flight CZ3525, from Guangzhou to Shanghai, encountered turbulence injuring several passengers. At 15:29, the aircraft landed safely at Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport and injured passengers were taken to a local hospital for examination and treatment. Altogether, nine passengers were injured, two with broken bones, and seven with head and face injuries.

Flight CZ3525 was operated by a Boeing 777 aircraft, which departed Sanya, Hainan Island at 9:30, with a stop in Guangzhou, before continuing on to Shanghai. At 13:41, the flight departed Guangzhou. About 20 minutes later, the aircraft encountered turbulence, according to passengers. Passengers reported numerous strong bumps, injuring nine people. The injured were taken to Changning Central Hospital for treatment.

One passenger suffered a broken right arm, and another a spinal neck injury. The other seven passengers received injuries to their heads and faces. The injuries are not considered life-threatening, and China Southern has reported that they are negotiating compensation for passengers.

I know that I am being an A.nut geek, but do any of our CZ folks here have any other information? Maybe a reg? I flew CAN-SHA just a few weeks ago...I am curious to know if it is the same aircraft.

In the article, the flight was listed as CC3525...is this just a typo, or does China Southern sometimes use CC???

A good reminder to always keep your seat belt fastened!

Thanks for posting this news. We sometimes forget that there are aircraft out there experiencing severe turbulence probably every day and we never hear about it.

I was on one such flight many years ago and we all thought the plane would eventually crash or tear itself apart mid-air.

It will be interesting to hear more details of this Chinese incident.
