NZ has announced that it is upgrading its AKL-PER route from the 763 to the 772. The announcement notes that NZ and its partner DJ now offer a lie-flat business class product on flights from AKL, MEL and SYD to PER. Note that not all MEL/SYD-PER flights offer this. I always thought the AKL-PER route was long and thin and was a bit surprised at this upgrade. http://www.hotelmanagement.com.au/20...d-upgrades-auckland-perth-flights/

AIRLINERS.NET CREW CHAT OPERATOR
NZ has operated the 772ER on the occasional flight to PER in recent times. I don't know if it was a last minute substitution or scheduled due to capacity demands, though.
For me personally, it's great to see another 777 operator in PER

This has already been talked about in the NZ 114 thread but here is the official release from NZ
Air New Zealand and alliance partner Virgin Australia today announced plans to boost capacity on the busy Auckland-Perth route by more than 20% in the upcoming financial year.
From 3 September, Air New Zealand will replace its 234 seat Boeing 767-300 with a 304 seat Boeing 777-200ER aircraft on its non-stop Auckland-Perth service.

DJ does not have lie-flat to Perth. They have the EK 332 business class product with some new covers, nothing more. Still fine for a daylight flight, but SkyBed on QF is better -- although QF running more and more domestic 332s on the route now.
NZ 772 on the route is a nice upgrade and means premium economy too, unless they do not sell it as such. Will make eastbound red-eye much nicer!
