Just for you local spotter. A Transaero 777 arrived this morning from Moscow (DME) and taxied straight to the UAL MOC. The view from the tower was difficult due to the dark hangar, but it appeared the right engine was coming off.

Anyone have any information on the aircraft? UA SOC had no information on when the a/c would be leaving.

Its clearly maintenance as it went straight into the hangar. However, I am curious if this is a lease return or UA now doing work on their aircraft.

I was not able to get the reg as I was busy with ground traffic when it arrived.

I thought UA sold aircrafts to UN, not leased...

Good thing it went to maintenance then..

Reg looks to be EI-UNX. Formerly UA 777-200ER (N207UA)

Saw it when I landed at SFO today. Was wondering if it was on old UA bird. Glad to see it here. Would love to see it on a regular basis!

Agreed, or even better, a 747

Given that there's a significant Russian community in San Francisco, I'm a bit surprised that no one's doing a direct flight from SFO-Moscow...really, the only way to get to Moscow from SFO is by flying to LAX, IAD, JFK, or a European hub. IIRC SU used to fly to SFO, but I guess they couldn't make it work...I wonder why...
