I came across an article discussing PHF after airtran's departure. I thought it would be interesting to start a tread discussing previous and upcoming FL station closings, what other service changes have occurred, and what the airports are doing to get the capacity back and prices down....
Maybe it's down now, but the seasonal service has just started again. NK has become worse in pricing transparency, and added fees from 12 months ago, and I suppose costs are just higher. The ACY-ORD fares seem higher this year. Last year one could fly to ORD r/t under $100.
Oops, my bad. I checked Transtats for January and traffic was down slightly (i think about 1.5%), but they must have recovered since then. Thanks for the correction.

I just checked bing for next month, and it's showing ACY-ORD at $184/rt. I thought bing included fees, probably not carry-on/checked baggage though.

While the cuts at BMI and MLI have had a negative impact on those markets pax numbers, PIA has picked up 3x CRJ's to ATL on Delta, most likely as a result of the cuts at BMI.

From the article you linked:
"Mueller said the SJTA is currently working with another low-cost legacy carrier to offer direct flights from the city to Dulles International Airport, in Washington, D.C."
I wonder if this is UA? Legacy but not low-cost. An IAD link would atleast give the airport national network connections even if not low fares and is shorter haul than DL's attempt with ATL.

That is curious. The only LCC that is really strong in DC is WN/FL and I really doubt it's them. lol.

FL quit flying to AVL the first week of January, but traffic at the airport was up 9% Jan - Mar. G4 has filled in with 2x service to SFB, which has done well (92.5% load factor for the first 3 months of the year), but is not yet at the 4x FL was offering at peak season to MCO. Hopefully, G4 will also add FLL and/or PIE (FL was also flying AVL-TPA 3x seasonally.)
I can tell you that some of that has to do with Spirit putting the A321 four times daily into ACY for the first four months, where last year we didnt have any.. Also DTW was upgraded to a 320 this year and ATL is also a 320.. ( BTW, the first 2 ATL flights went out with 176 and 177 pax respectively out of 178 seats, so hope it keeps up). Anothe reason is that charter traffic is up.

Plus, as soon as F9's plans for 4x-weekly BMI-DEN became public, UA announced a second daily PIA-DEN roundtrip. And on the day after DL began 3x daily PIA-ATL (April 9), G4 announced 2x-weekly PIA-PGD.
For January-March 2012, before any of the new services began, PIA experienced a 10% increase in pax. My guess is Peoria-based Caterpillar is really supporting the local airport, especially since the new terminal opened in April 2011.
