Haven't found a rendering yet. Look forward to it, though I'm surprised we haven't seen a Stanford or USC livery yet.

THIS I never imagined. As a proud SDSU Aztec graduate, I'm thrilled to see this move by AAG ...and what it could possibly mean in the greater picture!

It's terrific that it will be unveiled May 31 for a scenic flight over So Cal and (undoubtedly) used to help inaugurate the new Q400 routes on June 4/5 to FAT, MRY, and SRS.

Thank you Alaska/Horizon! Continued good fortune with your "San Diego Experiment" which I must admit, seems to be alive and doing very well!

Indeed the plot thickens, and of course it's no secret AS/QX is experimenting with the SAN market, I'm very excited to see where AS/QX goes from here with SAN. I understand what it's like to live in a great place, that unfortunately is overshadowed by a bigger airport to the north with much more services, leaving your hometown airport to work even that much harder to attract new flights. I also know what it's like to have an AS/QX hub in my hometown airport, and I think it's great, I wish the best for AS/QX and SAN.

Congrats to SDSU, but as a San Jose State alumni I was hoping QX would do a Spartans theme plane as AS/QX has built up a presence at SJC. Hopefully we'll get one next!

Why would those two overpriced country club schools get their own liveries? Waste of paint. We all know the only real university in California is in Berkeley. GO BEARS!!

Hey, all right!!!! That's the best comment I've ever seen on A.net! Wouldn't that Yale Blue and California Gold look great on a Q400! Come on QX, put the Golden Bear (a.k.a. Oski the Bear) on one of your tails.

Note to the Alaska Air Group Livery Command Center:

Sirs,

Please pay no attention to all these sore loosers who wonder why THEIR California school wasn't selected to have the first Q400 livery honors in the Golden State. You made the one and only, 100%, correct choice in selecting the San Diego State Fighting Aztecs, in America's Finest City, and home of Alaska's next focus operation, as the school logo and colors to next adorn one of your beautiful Bombardiers.

Great job and I can't wait to see the unveiling of the plane on the 31st!

Sincerely,

Proud Aztec Alumnus,
SANFan

You know, you're right, PDX and SAN do have some of the same issues. It would indeed be neat to see AS/QX grow SAN into their next focus and become even more of a powerhouse on the west coast. It's definitely a big enough city to support it.

At least PDX has a (much) nicer airport.

They desperately need to move from that hovel in T1-W to a different terminal. It is a hole over there (although, to be fair, it is slightly nicer than WN's disgusting trash pit of a terminal).

An interesting development in the T1 situation at SAN will occur next year when UA vacates their 5 gates in T1W (right next to AS's gates) to move over to the new Green Build gates in T2W. If my reasoning is correct, that will leave not only 5 EMPTY gates adjacent to AS's current real estate at SAN, but an empty airline club as UA's Red Carpet Room will also move to its new home in T2W.... Hmmmmmm, anyone else thinking what I'm thinking?

I am assuming AS will stay where they are (with a great opportunity for some remodeling to go along with the new shops and eateries that are going to open out in the T1W rotunda) but maybe they will be moving to T2W as well. Either way, it sounds like a lot of good potential for AS's SAN operation -- including growth! I have heard nothing specific at all about AS's plans at Lindbergh and would love to find out something if anyone does know. It's probably about a year (or even less) before the T2W expansion will start being inhabited so I would think plans and decisions must at least be in the final stages now...

In any case, as I've mentioned before, SDIA is starting the long process of remodeling/replacing T1 while they are constantly doing whatever they can to make it more attractive and bearable in the interim. Those in charge are certainly aware of the situation but are trying their best to keep costs to passengers and tenants as reasonable as possible. The Green Build alone has a price tag of $1B and we all know where most of that money comes from. Hang in there!

Absolutely D. (TUS is another similar case out here in the west.) There are many similarities between our cities and finally, for those of us on the coast anyway, things are looking mighty fine for the "overshadowed"!

I have always been very jealous of that lovely big airport up there by the river, especially that beautiful long runway and flat surrounding terrain! What a great place to build an airport!

Yes, once in a while I do get a little wood on the ball. I would love to see AS grow SAN, they are a fantastic hometown carrier. I guess since PS, SAN has not enjoyed a real hometown airline.

We are very proud of our world class facility, and vendors who are not allowed to price gouge, like Wendys at PDX, charges the same for food that their stores in Portland charge. Plus great shops. I don't know how many of you remember the observation lounge or deck, in between C & D in the public area on a floor above terminal gates and behind the main check in lobby.

This wonderful facility is fantastic, and since I have not flown in and out of SAN in a long while, so I wouldn't be able to compare them, but Lindburgh of the past never seemed very roomy. Odd fact, the current location of PDX was not the first location of Portlands airport. It used to be W/NW of the city center, on Swan Island. I do not know how long ago that was. The location of PDX is great along the river, coming in east or west direction, you get great views of the Columbia, but in the winter you get the gorge winds that come straight down the narrow gorge between The Dalles and Troutdale bringing high winds of course, plus often times freezing cold from east of the mountains and increases the chance of ice/snow.

Man, wouldn't it be nice if that were a universal rule. Many times have I gone hungry during my travels because of being unwilling to spend upwards of ten bucks on a "value meal" at an airport.

But in the summer, the heat is mitigated by a breeze along the river as well
