So it's actually an old test machine, not a new-build? An A380-800CJ has been ordered (or even >1?), besides this conversion, right?

No this is the only current VVIP order for the A380 currently. There were rumours of an African businessman who was after one (Micheal someone) but that never turned into an order. There were 5 test A380s:

MSN001 - to remain at Airbus
MSN002 - This plane - sold to private customer
MSN004 - Currently XWB testbed, originally was to go to EY but they changed for a newbuild, may eventually be sold for VVIP
MSN007 & 9 - again originally for EY but swapped for newbuilds and these 2 were sold to EK and are in service with them

Busy couple of days at TLS - 100th A320 for Air Asia, the roll-out of the A350 test fusealage and now this

I was going to ask where it was painted, as normally, the new built aircraft fly "green" to XFW. But that explains it of course. Old Airbus company colors are painted over and the rest of the job will likely be done at HAM or BSL, not sure of Lufthansa Technik or Jet Aviation won the contract.

I thought this customer ordered two of them?

Never ask somebody if he's a pilot. If he is, he will let you know soon enough!

Is this the A380 that Al Waleed ordered or did he cancel it after the GFC?

When I worked in Saudi Arabia I saw a programme follwing Prince Al Waleed. If I recall correctly he is the head of an area in Saudi and once a year holds court where his people can come and ask him for things. Well this old man turned up asking for a new truck because his had been hit by a train. Saudi Arabia only has one train so that in itself is quite a feat! Anyway Perince Al Waleed gave him a new 4x4. Currently he has a 747 and 727. The 727 follows the 747 around carrying the luggage!
