Am I A Sellout?

I am a frequent flier on Northwest Airlines. I even have a free ticket coming with NWA, like my 4th one. I am flying from TVC-LAX on United because I want the 777! AA was way to much money. I have been loyal to NW, and would like to know if anyone else has dissed their airline to try something else. Will my outlook toward NWA be the same after I fly UAL? I have flown CO, and Alaska, but, they are all associated with NWA. I am very excited to be flying a 763, 735, and 777 on my round trip! Dont forget the Dorks to and from TVC!

I think you will enjoy flying on the newer aircraft that UA uses .( 763,735 and 777) You might not even want to go back to the ancient rust buckets NW flies after getting a taste of 21st century air travel. A D9S - DC9 Super from TVC-MSP, 30+ years old. Might be safe but sure not pretty and don't sit next to the engines on the D9S or you might lose your hearing ). On the other hand, if you've never flown a D9S, it might be worth the experience to see how flying was like in the 1960's.

I have flown many diesel 9's. Most of them were flying into TVC before I was born with North Central.

Why in hell would you feel like a sellout? It's not like the c.e.o.'s give a flying f*** about you at all. All they care about is how many million they are going to get this year...

The only time I ditched "my" airline was for cheaper fares. "My" "old" airline was Delta. I'm gonna have to start flying CO more often.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Absolutely not a sellout. I was loyal to CO and NW until one time I had to book UAL transatlantic because NW didn't have available seats on the dates I wanted. I can't promist you that your outlook won't change, because mine did. I realized that by being loyal to CO and NW (although CO is a good airline) I simply missed the flight experiences that other airlines offer. Since that first time on UA I have been flying NW/CO less and less and UA more and more. By now I am a Mileage Plus Premier (UA) and will only return to my former favorite airline to use up my 60,000 miles on the OnePass account.

Well, its official, flying UAL!

I thought I had a 735 from LAX-SFO, but, today when I comfirmed my itierary, it showed a 733. So, here are the aircraft I get to fly..

D328 x2
B763
B733
B777

Hows that for variety? Also, should I get on UAL's frequent flyer program in case I like them? One more thing, is channel 9 still the channel to listen to ATC from your seat? Is that available on the 763 also? Thanks.

Channel 9 should be avalible on your flights that are on United, not United Express. I hope that you enjoy the 763, as well as the 777.

On your 737 flight, this will be your taiste of Shuttle. Compared to mainline United, Shuttle is nothing special, but you should enjoy it. What days are you planning on traveling, and on what flight numbers? I ask this because you may get on an interntional 763 as well as an international 777. Both are equiped with a 3 class cabin as well as PTVs for all passengers.

You should join United's Milliage Plus program. United is an awsome airline that is going through some rough times. If something bad happens like a delay, that really doesnt affect how United is deep down. I hope that you have enjoyable flights on the *NEW* United.

Any UA related questions that I could try to answer for you?

Not bad, but you could have gotten on a 747-400 from SFO to ORD.  Big grin

Have a good trip though; I look forward to hearing your trip report! (Btw... you ever been on a Dornier 328 before? What's it like?)

I ll let you know. Never been on a Dork. I bet its just as good as a CRJ that I could have taken out of TVC, if I wanted an A320 or a 757 (flown on both those types tons of times) to LAX. Next time I will get the 747!

Its like going to McDonalds even though you usually eat at Burger King. You might like one more than the other, but nobody really cares, and in the end it makes no difference.

Aircraft I've flown in and out of TVC on:

NW DC-9
Mesaba F-27
Am.Eagle Shorts 360 (first..and LAST trip on a -360)

and!

YS-11 Simmons!

Grew up out in Acme. 10 miles out from Cherry Capital, and even that far, on a quiet winter morning those damn North Central DC-9s departing at 6am were all i needed to wake up to catch the school bus.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Ok, another dilemma that I didnt think about. Air Whiskey pilots might be on strike by then. Will I be put on American Eagle? Or whatever airline (Northwest thru DTW then O Hare to get to my connection)

This could very well change things.

Heavymetal... Do I know you? Just curious to know if I chatted with you at all before.

Boeing757fan,

Dude, United is awesome! I am a frequent flyer with both United and Northwest. I have no preference for one or the other but when I book a flight, I silently hope for United having the lower fares (simply because of Channel 9).

I don't think you're selling out NW by flying UAL. UAL has a wide variety of aircraft that you can experience so if I were you, I'd get on as many of them as possible. Also since you are flying United for the first time, definitely enroll yourslef in Mileage Plus. it's a great program. But, your miles do expire with United if there is no activity in your status within three years. I know you may have been used to NW's miles which don't expire but UAL is a little different. Also, if you have status with WorldPerks, and you tell United that, they will match your WorldPerks status for MIleage Plus - but only for a year. You have to fly the rest of the miles yourself.

Anyway, enjoy your flight, don't forget to listen to Channel 9 and post your experiences on the trip report forum. Love to hear about them.

By the way, the flight from SFO-ORD doesn't happen to be Flight 141, does it? If it is, that's the flight I take most of the time when I come back to ORD from SFO. The ORD-SFO and back route is a great route, especially if you land on Runway 27 where you start your approach headed East towards Lake Michigan (opposite from the airport) make the 180 degree turn in middle of Lake Michigan and head straight west to the airport. Even better in a 777!

Enjoy your flight.

Peace,

UA40 is the SFO-ORD B777 flight. Its a red eye. Can anyone tell me if I am going to be on an international aircraft? The 763 is also in question too. UA55 ORD-SFO.

I will definitly post the trip report.

TCHS Class of '86. Where would we have chatted?

I'm sure I would have remembered it as the 757 is my absolute fave too!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

(forgive me if this has nothing to do with topic! as it is I reluctantly passed on flying a NW Avro into Saginaw in two weeks....going CO BE1900 out of CLE. Travelling with puddy tat so fewer stops the better!)

Your SFO-ORD flight is not an international flight. Flight #40 is a two-class 777 layout specifically intended for the US Market. It might go to Washington DC after it leaves Chicago and then back to Chicago then San Francisco again. But that is not an internationally designated plane, therefore you will probably not have the PTV's. You'll just have a common screen like the 747. The three-class 777 layout for international flight has the PTV's.
