Challenger Door Falls Off In Opa Locka - Follow Up

Back on May 23rd the main cabin door of N207JB - Challenger 601-3R fell off soon after departure on a repo flight.

Does anyone have photos of the aircraft after arrival into Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport - KFLL?

When you say "repo" flight - did you mean a repositioning flight or a repossession flight?

If the second, was this Nick Popovich's crew?

Wow, that is some door. They were very lucky it didn't hit any people or buildings on the way down.
I wonder if all the passengers on the plane were wearing their seat belts. I imagine that was some surprise seeing the door fall away.

I should get into being a professor, seems like an easy job.

They are lucky that the door departed the aircraft instead of just hanging out in the slipstream fully open. Then I would think that the drag might have affected the way the aircraft handled.

Just as a side note: Lots of GA planes have crashed because of doors opening in flight. The door being open or coming off is not the reason itself, but what usually happens is the flight crew becomes so occupied with the door issue they forget to fly the aircraft.

I actually had this happen to me one time. I was flying a Piper Navajo on a P135 charter and as soon as we lifted off we heard a "pop" and the "door open" light illuminated. One of the passengers released his seat belt and started heading to the door. I told him to sit down and fasten his seat belt. The door only popped open about an inch or so but it made a hell of a noise. We turned around and landed. What had happened is that a magazine got stuck between the door and the seal. It closed on the ground but when exposed to the air it popped open.

These kinds of things are embarrasing, but they happen.

I wasn't aware that the door was a clamshell type... glad the pilots (and plane) are safe on the ground!

How is the door on the Challenger? Is it the same as on the CRJ-100/200's? and if yes was this aircraft equipped with a type III or IV door?

I only have experience on the CRJ but that door is a PITA. At my former airline we had a lot of problems with slack in the door linkage.
