I live near JFK and when plane spotting from my backyard (my FAVORITE thing about my house), I saw an Air France a340-300 with the registration F-GNII operating flight AFR008 fly by. Why is the registration different from the other a340s, which have the F-GLZ* registrations?

Many AF A340s did use the F-GNI* registration series, from GNIA through GNII. However it appears that all of those aircraft except the last one, F-GNII, have been disposed of. The first in that series, F-GNIA, an A340-200, was the the first A340 written off in a ground fire during maintenance at CDG in 1994.
