I only flew with Skyways a few weeks ago. Very sad that they are gone now although the aircraft were incredibly tatty. Hopefully SAS can still capture passengers from regional destinations.

Also, about the terminal moves at ARN, what happened to OneWorld carriers moving to T2? I know British Airways had some problems with this due to the "downgrade". I guess SkyTeam were more attracted by the lower costs.

No we are going to T2, but not until December.
Swedavia are doing a lot of work on the non-Schengen end of the terminal and One World will not move until its finished.
Look at ARN website for details.
Please note this is a move under protest! We like pier F and want to stay.

Premium passenger or low cost passenger - Arlanda earn the same on both type of passengers as far as I know. It is the numbers that count, and these days I guess Norwegian is their second largest customer. It isn't the first time Norwegian has flown from Terminal 5. I happen to fly with the first Norwegian flight in to ARN on 1 September 2003, and we docket at one of the rust brown jet bridges at Terminal 5.

Did I really see a DC3 flying around CPH on 30 May??

Hello,

On Wednesday 30 May around 19.30hs I was in a taxi on the Öresund Bridge towards Sweden. Looking out to my right, I saw a 2 engine prop plane (big piston engines) without livery at about 600-1000m above the sea. Colour was white or maybe light grey. The A/C was flying towards Runway 30, but I seriously doubt it was going to land, as landing operations at that time was on Runway 04L.

I know of no other DC3 than the "Flygande Veteraner" one.

Anyone know anything about this aircraft?

Thanks.

Yes, you most likely did.

http://www.dc3vennerne.dk/

I flew it last year RKE-RNN-RKE, it was an amazing and very memorable trip. When we landed at RNN there was actually another DC-3 (Swedish, with retro SK livery) there, and the two ladies parked next to each other. Such a beautiful sight!

SAS have announced today that as a direct result of Cimber Sterling's banctrupcy, they are going to fire 80 danish employees.
It looks like it is mostly ground staff that are affected (people who previously did the handling of luggage, food etc for Cimber Sterling flights).

With these sad news, SAS mention that they might not be the last cuts we will see from them. I guess one could view these steps as nessecary measures to save the sinking ship that is SAS.

Some words regarding the Norwegian "vekterstreik" (security strike) which supposedly has been affecting Norwegian airports during the last few days.

- I flew from OSL to LHR yesterday on the BA 769, which was delayed on landing because of the strike and the again because of a technical issue that was later fixed by SAS technicians. It seems British Airways are overreacting to the strike action as it has not (as yet) caused too much distruption at OSL, yet on Friday two flights LHR-OSL were cancelled and one flight OSL-LHR were cancelled. Is this due to lack of communication between BA and Avinor or are there other reasons?

- The luggage belts at OSL are not working at check in due to lack of screening capabiliites so all luggage had to be taken by the passenger to the oversized luggage belt to be sent down to the aircraft. This was probably the most inconvenient part of my trip.

- Security queues were yesterday afternoon non existent at Gardermoen and I waited all of 30 seconds to clear security. However, it seems that more personnel have gone on strike today and that massive queues have formed at Trondheim Værnes Airport as a result.

Also on another note, the passport control booths have been moved at Gardermoen to create a much larger Non-Schengen area, cutting off the dual Schengen/Non-Schengen capabilities of some of the gates. Will this create a capacity issue for intra schengen flights? The area is still being built but there is much more space now.

Gates 19, 21 and 23 were being bulldozed yesterday (sad sight!) to make way for the new terminal extension so many of the DY and SK domestic flights are now handled via stairs from the old Widerøe gates.

Seems like there is going to be a lot of construction disturbance starting very soon!

The queues has been less than feared, mainly due to people showing up at the airport early, and that many travellers, especially business travellers, has postponed/cancelled their planed trip. Both SAS and Norwegian are now reporting a clear drop in the number of passenger and that they are lossing several millions each day

Quoting SKAirbus (Reply 18):

It will probably affect it somehow, but the non-schengen capacity had to be expanded due to an good increase in non-Schengen passengers

They have been doing this for a while now, but this will increase even further, together with increased used of remote parking av bussing from gate 14A, B, C and D.
Luckily the summer holiday is soon to come, with a fall in the domestic trafic, but I guess the domestic terminal will be very crowded when the business travellers return in August and the new south pier is not yet ready to use

Btw: OSL has a few web cameras where the construction can be followed

Was this at check-in area H? (where BA has check-in) If I got it correct, this is a separate/semi-separate baggage system, so I guess it's partly closed at the moment, and thus why you had to bring your luggage over to the "main system"?

Yes I read on NRK that they are thinking of temporarily laying off staff to compensate. Bad times and no end in sight to the action! The unions in Norway are very tough with their demands.

Yes. She said the security strike meant that baggage could not be screened in the traditional way and that only one screening function was available, hence why we had to take our luggage somewhere else after checking in. There were also loads of baggage trailers in the check in area in preparation of even more strike action.

Yes, should be OK. Both Swiss and SAS arrive at T5, and the ORD flight goes from T5 so you can walk from one gate to the other. Passport control is as you enter the F pier. From gate 18 to the ORD ( usually F62) gate is max 15 mins walk.

Gate 15 and 17 are also out of use at the moment. With a walkway being built from gate 17 area to the new temporary (although I believe it will become permanent) south pier. You can see that from the webcamera link a couple posts up.

Also part of the longterm plan. Where more schengen gates (dual with domestic) will come to the north pier. Although, lately the increase of non-schengen flights might have moved this forward a bit.

However, which gates will still be dual schengen/non-schengen? Gate 49 currently is the only schengen capable gate, which can accomodate A330 and larger (until new pier is built). And this gate is important for flights such as the Thomas Cook A330 flight to the Canary Islands (and potentially DY 787 flights to Canary Islands).
