I'm working on editing a video and I came across a former or possibly a leased Northwest DC-9 at LAX. It appears to have a black tail with a star but I can't see anything to help me identify who is operating it. If you have any idea of the operator, or reg, I'd love to know!

Well that looks like a "Stars" NHL logo on the tail on a DC-9-10 (seems to me NW operated the -14 and -15 types). The Minnesota North Stars left Minneapolis in 1993 and moved to Dallas becoming the Dallas Stars. So with that it could belong to either team. But I only see "Stars" - when the team was the Minnesota North Stars they never stylized the logo as just "Stars". With that bit of information this picture is likely taken after 1993.
I can't make out the tail # but it looks like ends in "L" - NW had a bunch of DC-9-10ss that had that tail # series:

Quoting FX1816 (Reply 7): It's the Dallas Stars logo as others have pointed out.
It depends on when the video was shot. Minnesota had the same logo minus the green "Dallas" from 1991 till 1993. The "Dallas" was added after they moved the team. From that video you can't tell, you'd have to go by the date.
