Looks like it ends effective June 15. Cue speculation on Qatar joining SkyTeam

I wonder if that will affect DOH-IAD as there is more feed at IAD from UA than DL.Interesting.

I wonder if UA would start DOH-IAD.

Leads me to think the new UA wants to expand it's presence in the Middle East. No loss for me, sorry QR.

When does the tag on from the IAD-DXB flight to DOH start?

UA already flies DOH-IAD daily via DXB and I was in it. Amazing service and equipment!

I do wonder if the "announcement" reported by Bloomberg that Qatar would use their 787s to serve ATL and DTW (amongst other new US destinations) plays any role in this. Makes much more sense for them to synergize with the DL network in those cities.

They won't be missed. QR is a good airline. But then you see how some people are mistreated at security check gates before boarding a flight bound for US and you realize you will not spend your money on an airline owned by a country where such profiling and mistreatment of human beings exists!

As opposed to the way TSA treats passengers?

I don't know if it's changed, but at IAD you had a passport check with a 7 foot tall gorilla (wearing a suit of course) before you were allowed to approach the ticket counter.

Its way to premature to think about that. I would be surprised if either of those cities show up in the QR network in the next 3-5 years.

The "announcement" is anything but right now.

The main reason, UA feels that QR's expansion in North America is threatening to take away passengers to Middle East and beyond, especially the ATI partner LH. The more passengers who go via DOH to Middle East/Africa/India, less passengers will be using LH and thus reduced revenue for all partners. Otherwise I dont see any reason for this.

Interesting. Thanks for the link James.

Clearly I was very mistaken in thinking that QR was somewhat close to Star Alliance and that it was a potential future member.

Next flights: MEX-GRU (AM 77E), GRU-GIG (JJ A320), SDU-CGH (G3 73H), GRU-MEX (JJ A332).

Isn't that mandated by the US government tho? You get that treatment just about anywhere when boarding a flight to the US.
