Some weeks ago I was surfing through Thai's homepage, and came across a press release which said that TG would not retire their 4 a/c strong MD 11 fleet yet, because no suitable replacemnet "toy" have been found. I think that is nice because a pax Md11 is becoming more and more rare for every day. But I think its strange that they haven't found any replacement a/c. Wouldn't a 777 be a great choise?

Btw: did you know that all Tg 777-200 are geting 9 instead of 10 abreast seating in coach. Thats also great.

Even better, they're replacing the 777 with the MD11 on the Australian routes. Yay!  Smile No more leg pain next time I go to BKK..

That was quite cool to hear, becaus that shows taht Thai don't want to get rid of the Md11 so soon.
Where did you find that info?
Do you also think taht the new 777 confing is a part of a program that will bring Tg back to what is was some years ago?

Great to hear Thai won't be retiring the MD-11s so soon. Slows down the rate of the MD-11s disappearing.

Not to pick on Thai, but does anyone know why some of their B777s are so dirty? Other aircrafts are quite clean except the B777s.

Thanks

I know the son of the chief pilot, and also it appears in the CRS of the airline I work for!

Although I'm sure TG's new entertainment and seats will (when they appear) be on par with most other Asian operators, I don't think they can afford to be leader of the pack, with the current low value of the Thai baht, which is unfortunate, but I think TG is really managing very well given the huge handicap of the local currency! They have a nice modern fleet and still a high reputation.

As for the dirty planes - It's due to their constant ascents and descents through the air of Bangkok - but they are washed just as regularly as other airlines!

 Smile

That was an interesting question.
It would be great to follow the Tg activity on the splendid schiphol webpage.

Btw: when id Thai cheased the AMS opperations?, and was Ams served by the 744 or MD11, or do we have to go back to the 742 and Dc10?

Well they've got too much of a compatition on the BKK AMS route,

BR BKK-AMS 5xweekly 744 combi
CI BKK-AMS daily 744
KL BKK-AMS 6xweekly 744 combi

So how can they compete with too much other airlines?
