Rumour: TAM To Launch GIG-MCO In October

Earlier in May, TAM had been awarded 15 new weekly frequencies for Brazil-USA service. There was no secret about GIG-JFK going from 6x weekly to daily, CNF-MIA from 3x weekly to daily and BSB-MIA from 4x weekly to daily. 7x weekly frequencies were still undisclosed.
My sources have now revealed that those frequencies will fund daily GIG-MCO flights to be launched in October.

That's the largest O&D from Rio without non-stop service being covered !
Lets see what schedule they will add (seems they will try GIG-MCO overnight and MCO-GIG daylight, and this may constitutes the first daylight daily service, non-stop to Rio from the United States).

Even better.. seems that GIG-MIA will be upgauged to a daily A332.

It seems AA and JJ are playing chess...
first was JJ increasing seat offer to MIA, then AA react twice and now, JJ will be back.

Orlando is a huge leisure market from Brazil, and with the changes being implemented to make it easier for Brazilians to get US visas, it should be even bigger.

If I might ask, onslaught of what? And why "Poor Orlando"?

Brazilian tourists helping the local economy by shopping, dining out, sleeping in hotels, visiting theme parks?

Seems to me increased tourism will only make Orlando less poor. Perhaps that's why the US Government decided it was good policy to open two additional consulates in Brazil last month and streamline visa procedures for Brazilians. Brazilian tourists spent over $2.7 billion in the USA in 2011, putting Brazil ahead of the UK as the second-highest total contributing country to US tourist revenue. Forgive me if I'm missing the bad news in all of this.

@ beertrucker and Sulley... I hope this is an attempt at dry humor.

We will take all the Brazilians we can. The growing middle class visitor from Brazil on average spend more in Central Florida than any other international visitor group. With the economy still on shaky ground, I hope for continued success for the 3 TAM MCO flights full of Brazilians and hope for 20 more just like it. As long as they willing to spend their money here, Let Them Come.

You guys don't want TAM, we here in Houston would love to have a Brazilian carrier give PMCO and now UA a run for it's money, The folks at HAS have been trying to entice any Brazilian carrier to our li'l airport since the days of RG and VASP, to no avail.

Agreed. And the oil & gas segment could be better covered by TAM, but they don't go for new markets.
But GIG-MCO is a market for sure they might take advantage.

I have found that unless you book a UA flight that is operated by TAM, that TAM is Muito expensive, especially in F or C. However I have only have encountered this on the TAM GIG/JFK non-stop..

Orlando has become a top destination for TAM. Tickets on this segment can be just as high as MIA and JFK, sometimes even more expensive. Cargo is another big suprise! I say JJ is extremely happy to have invested in MCO, not only for the obvious leisure market, but also for the high yield passengers bound to central florida.

Exactly, not to mention the fact that flying to MCO means not having to bother with direct competitors, since it is improbable that a US airline will launch long-haul flights from MCO any time soon.

The Brazilian economy is slowing, the 'boom' seems to be over, and our "new middle class" is now drowning in debts.
Do you guys think there will be demand for 2 daily GRU-MCO + 1 daily GIG-MCO?

Good heavens! I agree with JPYVR. Brazilians are great - they're gorgeous, they're fun - and know how to enjoy life - especially where music is involved. Why wouldn't any American city be thrilled to have them visit? I am sure Disney and Universal and SeaWorld are thanking their lucky stars that the folks from Brazil are traveling to Orlando.

(P.S. any Brazilians reading this feel free to stop by and visit us folk down here in San Diego. No, we don't have non-stop flights, but we're worth the effort of finding us!)

I am quite baffled as to why someone would classify that as so much of a '' bad '' thing for their city/country. I wish they were flocking to Jamaica in those large numbers as well !!

Of beautiful women. When I was working at MCO, I had a customs seal so I could get into customs area and I liked going down to Customs just to see the hot women coming in on that afternoon flight.

Both are stronger, but to be very honest, January and July are the stronger ones, followed by August and the first weeks of February and the last two of December. These are the gold times for airlines flying Brazil-US.
