What's the future with this plane? I know the other CO planes have been repainted, but is this plane going to be repainted in the new UA colors or stay in the CO retrojet colors? Sorry if this was discussed previously.

I didn't realize it was still painted in retrojet colors. I hope they do keep it.

One can also dream that United will paint a 737, Airbus or something in a meatball colorscheme.

I'm wondering will UA keep a regular CO & UA? And what about the UA classic Airbus?

UA has the stars and bars retro jet and CO has the Blue Skyways retrojet. Besides the name on the side, I don't see why the Blue Skyways would get repainted. Maybe then name on the side would be repainted UA, but the tail and colors scheme should stay, at least for several years while the paint is good. It was delivered in June 2009 with retro paint for CO's 75th anniversary.

Or they could just add a small United logo like AC did:

I think this would be the best way to go. Maybe we can get a PEOPLExpress logojet too

I don't think we need to go there. Then shy not have a retrojet for all carriers that make up United?

If that was the case, I don't see any of those getting a special livery.

Other than the retro jet are there still any CO planes anymore? At work last week I was surprised to see the flight strip for a UAL flight still said "CONTINENTAL LIVERY" in the remarks section and I figured it was just the retro jet since it was a 739.

No, last one was repainted in April IIRC

What about the other United Airlines components?:
Boeing Air Transport
National Air Transport
Pacific Air Transport

You could quibble about Pan Am since United only bought portions of it. PA staggered along for a few years after selling its guts to UA and PA sold routes to other airlines too.

I am willing to bet a dollar that a form of the Saul Bass tulip will reappear on the main livery eventually. After the Continental name is relegated to history and the need to merge identities disappears, the tulip is really a better icon for United than the globe.

I think that they should ditch the "Stars and Bars" retrojet as it is an old and unfamiliar livery to many and replace it it with one wearing the iconic "Saul Bass/Rainbow" livery-perhaps an sCO 762 or a 744?

I think they should have the livery that CO had on their 707s. That was a classy livery imho . The United Saul Bass rainbow has grown on me. I think it would look amazing on an A320! I also think the CO livery I mentioned would look good on a 757 or a 777, maybe even 787, if they ever get them lol.

Yeah, no sense in confusing people with something they have never seen before...good grief!

The Saul Bass scheme has been gone for less than 20 years...much too soon for a retrojet.

Don't forget "Continental West." The first airline within an airline. Hub SJC, hourly flights to LAX, others to LAS, PHX, RNO, SEA, PDX, SAN running DC9's and 732's. Some 733' too. Competing with AirCal and PSA. One class of service with fares from $19-$39. Flew them ALL the time. Short lived

What was the timeframe for that operation? My first ever flight was on CO from SJC-LAX in the mid 1980's (I was 5 or 6; don't really remember it, unfortunately)...I wonder if it was on this?

Around mid-1985. It didn't last too long, competition from OC, UA and PS wiped it out pretty quick.

A/C 436 will remain in it's current CO retro livery until it goes through it's normal paint cycle. Which is every 6 to 7 years for PMCO A/C.

Is it broke...? Yeah I'll fix it.
