Evergreen, operator of some of the oldest 747 freighters, is slowly modernising its fleet. They have aquired two 744s, one being a PW-powered BDSF (line-no.999) taken over from World Airways and built in 1993, the other a GE-powered frame from 1991 formerly flying for JAL, a BCF currently under conversion (line-no.885). They now have three 744 freighters, all three very different versions though.

Thanks for starting this thread. It's definetily worth it. I don't know if it's only me but when I saw the picture it looked strange to me. Evergreen with a modern jet, even with winglets!!! Whenever I saw an Evergreen plane it used to be an old plane (B 747-100s, -200s, DC 8s, B 727)...

Same here, but that means only we are getting older   The 747-400 is also an old plane by todays standards, even if it has a 2 man cockpit, winglets and displays instead of classic round gauges.

I know I am getting really old when I will see a Kalitta or Evergreen 747-8F

It will forever be a McDonnell Douglas MD 80 , Boeing MD 80 sounds so wrong

All of the planes Kalitta picked up from JAL were supposed to go to Evergreen, but Kalitta offered more $$$ as Evergreen was trying to negotiate a lower price.

Interesting, I didnt know that. I´m sure, the oldest ex-JAL 744s must have become cheaper now that they have been stored for more than a year and the later ones built after 1991, D-models not counted, have all found a new home. I´d guess Evergreen will get a few more in the near future.

Oh yes, and today its another year for me in the wrong direction
Its hard getting used to the 744 slowly being referred to as an old type, as I still remember vividly being it the hottest new bird out there - the nicest looking it still is.

Gosh, dont like to think about it but I´ll likely be in retirement age then when the 748 will start carrying the red and gold or green stripes and 77Ws and A330s are joining the scrapyards by the dozen.

When I got Hire By United the DC8 -71 was newly converted, a front line airplane, The 767-200 was a YEAR old and there WAS no such thing as ETOPS and the 737=300 was Brand spankin' NEW!! The 747-400 was newly delivered after the 1985 Strike and the 777 was still months from assembly, Talk about getting OLD?? That is the statrement of the Year. I won't be working by the time the 787 and the A350 see the Terminal..( I hope)

You may be confusing Evergreen with Northern Air Cargo. Northern was originally awarded the deal for the 5 ex-JAL 744BCF's but the deal never closed. Several months later the 5 a/c were split by Kalitta and an investor group that ended up with 3 of the a/c going to Kalitta and the other 2 were leased to Atlas.

That was National, not Northern Air Cargo, that lost the 744 deal.

Start sequence, 3,2,1, make it so...
