Definetly good news for Bombardier. Netjets has announce the following aircraft purchases:

Challenger 300s - 75 firm orders, options for 125 (deliveries begin in 2014)
Challenger 605s- 25 firm orders, options for 50 (deliveries begin in 2015)
Cessna Latitudes- 25 firm orders, options for 125 (deliveries begin in 2016)

I always thought there was bad blood between NJA and BBD, hence the reason they never flew BBD products until now, and also the reason Flexjet was created by BBD. I wonder if Flexjet will be shut down or someoen will buy them?

It's the second Bombardier aircraft order in two years for Netjets. Last year, they ordered up to 120 Bombardier Global business jets.

I'm excited to see the Cessna Latitude gain some significant orders. Haven't heard much about this airplane lately in terms of sales.

correct, for their long-haul needs, Netjets is replacing their Gulfstreams with Globals. And it looks like they're replacing their G-200 and Falcon 2000 fleets with Challenger 300/605s

Hopefully they'll call back all their furloughs first!

Big change for NetJets, coming off a mostly Citation and Falcon fleet. Those Challengers are workhorses, though, they'll be very happy with them.

Which is somewhat surprising, since The Gulfstream 280 and Falcon 2000 are, on paper, better and more capable airplanes than the 300 and the 605, respectively. Likely they got a good deal on costs. And, to be fair, they probably don't need all the extra capability of the airplanes - I don't think they'll be flying their 300 across the Atlantic that often.

Bombardier is currently developing an improved version of the Challenger 300 which should be ready for Netjets.

Hopefully they'll start hiring soon, that'll certainly be good news for many. I wonder how many of the almost 500 currently on furlough will actually come back? I'd guess less than 50% but with a company like NetJets it could be a bit more.

They don't have any choice in the matter. This order won't spawn recalls however as they are not growth airframes. They will be replacing aircraft already in the fleet. I just hope we see a Ten order.

Recalls won't happen til 2014 or later according to mgmt briefings (not that I'm privy to that info...)

Large cabin aircraft (DA-2000, G-IV / V's) have flight attendants unless the owner requests they not be there. Owners can request one on smaller cabin aircraft, but there is no jumpseat so she's going to be sitting in a pax seat. There are also no ovens / cooking in the small / mid cabin aircraft so her resources are limited.

On the large cabin aircraft, they cook full meals, keep the cabin clean, make "beds", etc. Pretty much whatever the owner requests.

Good to know. Hopefully they all find themselves back in the job, if they haven't found a replacement job already, it sucks to hear about folks on furlough.

It would be hard for me to bypass a recall right now. Upgrades will be nonexistent and the FO payscale tops out at year 8 or 10 (can't remember). Upside is we accrue longevity while on furlough. I'd go back to 5th year pay, looking at 7th year pay if and when the time comes.

There are other "ifs" about this order. We don't know how many will go to NJE, or maybe even China should they get that deal spun up. They are also parking aircraft, possibly at a great rate than deliveries. Also, these orders are great, provided current or new owners buy them. If few shares sell it turns into a bad deal. Rapidly. This isn't like a scheduled airline.

This order is a fleet upgrade/replacement, it does not mean growth for Netjets. But it really is good news for the company. It is a STAMP OF APPROVAL from Mr. Buffett

NJA remaining in business should have confirmed that already. Much remains to be seen and will play out in the coming months. I have little doubt my remaining career will be used as a hostage in negotiations.

Only if I wanted to keep flying. When / If recalls happen we'll be sent back through training which will take care of currency issues. If I wanted to rent an airplane, I'd need to go for a flight review. Too much money at the moment so I'll sit on the ground. Several of the other guys who were furloughed are flying for different carriers, overseas, military contracts, etc. I started another career outside of the cockpit so no need for me to keep current.
