INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT SA) and Eagle Air/Arnaflug (Iceland)">IS THIS REPORT?
This compares what is for sale THIS WEEK for the stated period versus what was for sale LAST WEEK...It does NOT compare to last year or now (UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED).

HOW DO I READ AND Irtysh-Avia (Kazakhstan)">IT?
XXX-YYY DEC 4>5 JAN 4>5 ; means that the listed airline changed the frequency between the two airports to add from 4 to 5 roundtrips in December and January. No other months were changed. I only list one direction, although it is possible the listed change is only one way. It is too difficult to average the two directions. I assume the change is roundtrip and that is most often the case.

HOW ARE THE DAILY DEPARTURES CALCULATED?
This report uses total operations for the month listed, divided over the days in the month.

WHAT ARE THE FRACTIONAL FLIGHTS?
Non-daily operations create fractional weekly service. In most cases flights are rounded, but in the case of international service or markets with low frequency, fractions are shown. If a flight operated 5 days out of 7, it would show 0.8 flights.

WHY ARE THERE WEIRD FREQUENCIES IN FAR AWAY MONTHS FOR LCCs?
Most airlines publish schedules 11 months in advance. This report covers the next 9 months. That avoids seeing schedules as they are loaded. Several LCCs load their schedules less than 9 months into the future. Their schedules may also end mid-month. If SA)">B6 loads their schedule until Jan15, all flights in Janaury will show half frequency because of the way the report is created.

WHY SA) and Eagle Air/Arnaflug (Iceland)">IS A WHOLE AIRLINE'S SCHEDULE SHOWN SA)">AS CHANGING FOR A FUTURE MONTH?
Similarly to the previous question, some airlines load their schedule from nothing inside the 9 month window of this report. When their schedule is extended it will show as new service because there was no previous schedule to compare to. In some instances I will show a more valid comparison against another period.

THOSE FLIGHTS AREN'T DELTA, THEY ARE PINNACLE
This report only shows the marketing code. It is too complicated to show all the operators.

THE FREQUENCIES MAY HAVE CHANGED SA)">AS YOU SHOW, BUT THE SEATS DIDNT CHANGE BECAUSE OF EQUIPMENT SWAPS
That is a natural weakness of a frequency based report, but it provides something to discuss below.

THE FREQUENCY DOESN'T SHOW A CHANGE, E.G. 4>4
This happens as a result of rounding. There is a change in service that is large enough to be listed, but through rounding it does not appear.

I marked some of the ones I thought were interesting with an "*".

As usual, I provide a disclaimer for the SA)">G4 schedule since many people claim it is not the same as what they are selling. I do not know if that is true or not. I only know what they are publishing to OAG. According to this, the HNL service is delayed in most markets and reduced in FAT.

Thanks, as always, for taking the time to compile and post all this stuff.

There's an issue with certain flights moving from AirTran to Southwest with the November schedule change being double-counted. And it's likely from the fact that AirTran initially loaded the flights as their own for the November-January period, and then pulled them Monday morning when Southwest loaded theirs. Some flights were included both in FL's load and WN's load.

I'm not positive if there are any instances of this outside of the MKE flights, since it seems that's where this primarily happened. But these are the affected ones. I focused on December to avoid any possible noise with the first few days of November still being the old schedule.

WN BOS-MKE DEC 2>4...........DEC 2012 is really 2>2
WN FLL-MKE DEC 1>2............DEC 2012 is really 1>1
WN LGA-MKE DEC 5>8...........DEC 2012 is really 5>5
WN MKE-MSP DEC 3>10.........DEC 2012 is really 3>5
WN MKE-SFO DEC 1.3.2.........DEC 2012 is really 1.3>1

I think that the rest of the WN/FL changes for MKE are correct. I suspect that in a subsequent week you'll see FL BOS-MKE show 2>0, FLL-MKE show 1>0, LGA-MKE show 5>0, MKE-MSP show 5>0, and SFO-MKE show 1

It looks like DL is not going to pick up a flight from AF after all. The route stays 3x (2 AF, 1 DL). This appears to be a reversal of where DL took over one of the AF flights for the winter.

Somewhat related, but DTW-CDG now has 1x DL 767 1x AF 343. In November, DL is going to upgage their flight to an A330-300.

They must have spun the "Aeromexico scheduling wheel of destiny" for this week's change and it stopped on .5/week. I'd have better luck in Vegas guessing what number to bet. I've never seen a more embarrassing mess for a week-to-week schedule. Yet, it is MX that is out of business. Go figure...

Well, it is likely one of a couple of reasons:
1) Rebalancing capacity due to other seasonal TATL reductions. Adding more seats on a Skyteam hub-to-hub flight to offset the reduction in other Europe flying
2) Utilizing excess A330 aircraft due to seasonal reductions
3) DL 767 interior mod work

Has something to do with the way federal reimbursements are made--since the UA codeshare has been dropped. From the crowd at the gate, I assumed the QR/UA codeshare was making money.

Well, there are cuts as well. They are now below the original service commitment which means they will exercise their option to reduce their service at least by one tier in the contract. That isn't surprising since they have been riding the minimum exactly.

Could be an error, lets wait till next week. It is odd that it is looks like a seasonal drop, but the notice is way too short. It's probably a mistake in their filing.

The Fly America programs prevents U.S. govt employees from flying on foreign carriers unless there is no other option.

It is an accumulation of the cuts over the last year, but effectively that is true in that we didn't know if they were seasonal or permanent cuts until a year has passed.

I am not surprised on the ABQ cuts. Current SEA flight has empty seats in what was typically a full aircraft. ABQ has become a low-yield market. In my recent round trip, no one opted for business select. Increasing the stage length will definitely help WN. I am curious as to why SEA-ATL is completely cut, DL loyality due to AS codeshare?

I personally think we will see WN drop more point to point routes in favor of using certain large operation cities for connections instead. I think this is a reason ABQ is taking a hit by WN, making more passengers connect, less hub or focus cities, or whatever WN is calling them today, see what is happening at MEM, CVG, CLE, and you'll see a new direction for WN, it's been said in other threads here on A.net recently, even the employees are unsure of how WN is proceeding since the merger with AirTran.

WN ATL-SEA OCT 1.6>0

What happened here? Wasn't this going to be one of WN's first redeye flights?

I believe this is related to the lack of code share more than anything, although seasonality is also at play. When WN put their metal on the route they were thinking the code share would be up and running. WN never scheduled any red-eye flights.

I personally think we will see WN drop more point to point routes in favor of using certain large operation cities for connections instead.

WN is moving toward a legacy style hub style, except with rolling banks.

I wonder if the elimination of BHM-BNA is an indication that WN will launch ATL-BHM at some point in the near future. Otherwise, BHM's only connection point going east will be BWI.

25 enilria : I could see that going either way. ATL makes more sense than BNA, BUT I don't think WN is a fan of extreme short-hauls these days.
26 izbtmnhd : Understand your stance. To be fair though, CLE-Florida are mainline adds while the cuts are express. It has to be surprising for people who though CL
27 LHCVG : LGA and DCA are about there, give or take one or two either way.
28 Post contains images enilria : The agreement is flight based not seat based, I no longer believe they will declare they are losing so much in CLE that they will be able to exit the
29 knope2001 : Aren't the WN numbers a year-over-year comparison of WN+FL 2012 versus WN+FL 2011? This simply points out that ATL-SEA is ending sooner in 2012 than
30 Cubsrule : I don't see ATL-BHM. Note that BHM-BNA, RSW-MCO and MDW-IND were all cut at the same time (though not all loaded this week, for whatever reason). BHM
31 enilria : Intra-Florida excepting EYW is all going away from what I hear. If we did the math, there is probably a minimum mileage they are implementing.
32 caleeiii : Don't forget BWI. That is the connector I seem to get the most to the East. I also seem to see more MDW connecting flights to the East lately. I will
33 caleeiii : Even ECP-MCO?
34 PDX88 : AA runs 19x daily (17x Sat) between ORD-DFW, along with 6x from UA and 2x from NK. Not positive DFW is #1 from ORD but it trumnps CLE.
