I am planning to spend two weeks in Sicily near CatanIA and have a PPL. Does anyone know if it is possible to get to rent an aircraft (without an instructor) for a few hours, even if after a couple of familiarization flights? I would like to do a small local flight around the volcanoes,

Thanks!

If not, It wouldn't be too far of a flight from Palermo Sicily, Trapani, Ragusa or even on the mainland from Calabria if you can't rent something from Catania.

The link is working for me.
I have flown with them before. There are a couple of others, mom and pop, type ops around the field.
Call much in advance and tell them what you want. Trying to rent day of will be near impossible.
Get everything in order, as they normally want copies of your license, logs, etc.
Start that now and all should be ready by the time you get there (I presume you are going later this year and not in a week or two!)

The flying is nice but depending on winds the area around Etna is busy if all the traffic is being routed into Catania landside. Even more so if it is busy day at NAS Signonella. You will enjoy it though! Good luck.

and you better hope Mt. Etna isn't erupting or you will have all kinds of TFRs when that happens.

Quoting FlyingSicilian (Reply 3):

Well they answered:
"for insurance reason and Rules of Aero Club, we can not rent our aircraft to no-member people. The membership is an annual quote of 350,00 Euro plus 100 Euro as incoming fee (too expensive for a single flight...)"

Would you know the names of the other clubs you mention?
Thanks alot!
