I noticed N612JB today before noon at DFW, presumably for Fl. 254 to BOS. I thought DFW-BOS was only E190s... has there been an upgrade or is this a simple equipment sub? I can't tell on the B6 timetable was plane is scheduled for each flight. Thanks.

While it is not regular, I have seen the A320s more than a few times, especially on the afternoon flight that comes into DFW around 4ish.

I've flown on 9V-SPK.

I'm not gonna put out numbers on here but I will say its not going anywhere. What is really odd is how many transfers there are from JFK. JFK-BOS-DFW is not a rare sight. I'm down in JFK and when ever I do I see lots of connects for DFW.

I looked at booking a flight from BWI-DFW in November. B6 had me going via BOS on a A320 to DFW.
B6 #254/255
I looked at 11/2-11/4.
Perhaps it's becoming regular?

Looks like B6 introduces a scheduled 320 on the first BOS-DFW rotation effective this Thursday, 6/21. Then, all three flights appear to go to daily 320s as of 10/28.

Does anyone know if the upgauge to 320s was planned all along, or is this a response to unexpectedly high demand? Do the 320s stay in the market indefinitely, or are they temporary?

Why are you tracking that plane? I do it too for certain planes and I'm just asking to know what the signifance is.

The first flight of the day has been flip/flopping between E190 and A320 on a scheduled basis. In fact, the first flight ever for B6 at DFW was on an A320. Today was a substitution, however based on the flight schedule, the first flight of the day will be A320 starting 6/21 again, I didn't look through the rest of the months, but it looks like we'll be flip/flopping accordingly on a scheduled basis and substitution basis.

Its kind of a little "hobby" I guess, just to see the number of flights, miles, destinations etc. it operates in a year. Last year I tracked N945FR (Frontier's "Chocolate" the moose).

This year im also tracking an AA MD-80 N582AA. For this year i want to compare the workhorse of a legacy to the workhorse of an LCC.

I know its a little weird, but its a little "hobby" i have lol.

That actually sounds like an interesting comparison project you're working on. I look forward to seeing a report posted on here at the end of the year! Any insight so far as to how they compare as we near the half-way point of the year?

I agree! That is a very creative and interesting project and I too look forward to seeing your findings. I just do it for the aircraft I've either flown on, spotte, or that just peaked my interest out of curiosity and patterns of airports they visit. Not as interesting as yours!

Thanks for the interest, I honestly thought that people would think it was weird lol. Yes I would be glad to post up a report at the end of the year with the results.

So far this is what I can report:

- When it comes to average daily flights, N582AA operates more ( 6-8) while N789JB operates (2-4).
- When it comes to average distance of flights the B6 aircraft operates longer distance flights, mostly trans-con (LAX-JFK, LAX-BOS etc.) While the AA aircraft operates shorter flights (DFW-AUS, DFW-STL, DFW-DEN etc.)
- The B6 aircraft does a lot of red-eye flights, mostly from the west coast to east coast. The AA aircraft usually stops flying around 11 pm. Up to now, the AA aircraft has not operated a red-eye.
- Basically the B6 aircraft never rests, its usually always flying, while the AA aircraft does rest, usually between the hours of 11 pm to 8 am.
- The AA aircraft is more hub oriented (hub and spoke model), the majority of the flights it operates either ends or begins at DFW.
- The B6 aircraft on the other hand, is not very hub dependent. It is common for N789JB to spend an entire day flying up and down the west coast and then heading back to BOS at the end of the day.
- The AA aircraft always goes back to DFW at the end of the day, while the B6 aircraft doesn't always go back to BOS or JFK at the end of the day.
- The AA aircraft has a more random route structure, but it mostly remains in the South.
- The B6 aircraft has a more organized route structure, It has three different structures that it usually follows. It either flies up and down the west coast, up and down the east coast or trans-con. It rarely flies to the middle of the country or to the south.

So for now, those are some comparisons that I have come to see between these two aircraft.

Thank you! Yeah every night before I go to bed i record all the flights that they operated ( I have a journal for each aircraft).

Ill be honest, there are days when im tired and I have to go to bed, but I cant, cause I have to record the flights lol, but its worth it at the end of the year.

You guys should try it.

Heres a quick video on the results of Flight Tracking 2011 (N945FR):

LOL, well, everyone on here is a little weird, different aspects of the industry peak our interests! Here's some hints on what you are seeing:

B6 will typically send the newer aircraft on the transcons. Why? Efficiency. N7##JB and up have the lighter seats in the cabin, lighter galley equipment, and the engines run a little more efficiently (although engine changes and whatnot do have to be taken into consideration). Less weight + more efficient engines = less fuel burn which is HUGE for long flights. I'm sure if you took an older aircraft, like in the late N5##JB or even early N6##JB series, you would see a much different story, or on the AA side maybe some of their newer 737's which are replacing the MD80's. You are comparing a plane that is a year old (N789JB delivered 3/2011) to one that is nearly 21 years old (N582AA delivered 7/1991). Also, remember that a plane doesn't have to cycle through a hub, but at least a MX base every now and then. B6 has its MX in JFK, BOS, BUF, EWR, DCA (recently moved from IAD), FLL, PBI, MCO, TPA, LGB and SFO. I also believe we have LiveTV MX in JFK, BOS, FLL, MCO, LGB and SFO but I can't remember if that is the case, the list may have changed. I'm sure the bird is getting some down time in some of those to clear DMIs and MELs. Still interesting to see the comparison in routing, cycles, hours, etc. Nice job!

Thank you very much! I really appreciate you're analysis on this. I appreciate the insight about the lighter seats on the new JB aircraft, it makes more sense now. I do realize that there are a lot of other factors, such as (as you mentioned) the age difference between the aircraft, the fact that AA has around 190 md 80s + the 737 fleet, which makes sense that the MD80s have a lighter work load compared to B6s A320s and other factors. For this project I actually just wanted to look at the basic work load and operational performance of these two specific birds.

To be honest, I intentionally chose one new and one old. The idea was to compare Legacy vs LCC, Old vs New etc.

Thank you again for your insight and I appreciate you taking interest.
