With FX replacing their MD-10s with 767s, I wonder, what a/c is likely to replace their A306s, in the future?

Fx has some of the last a306's built. It will be some time before they are retired. Seeing some issues with FX though. Their 4th qtr earnings were not great. Fred Smith said come fall there will be cost reductions implemented. Aircraft retirements likely. So FX pilots will either be furloughed or go back to concessions of 4a2b. I have heard that FX may even use trucks like UPS to haul air cargo. This is why UPS is so much profitable than FX. Now UPS is recalling furloughed pilots and FX might start furloughing. Fred Smith is going to be reducing costs. Main cost reduction is payroll. I guess some of the FX pilots on APC should have listened. They thought FX was the end all be all. Hey Mav you have that number to that truck driving school?

Its hard to say it may happen (furloughs I mean) although up to now FX really has never gone that route unlike UPS has at the drop of a hat. But some type of 4a2b kinda thing or something like it...Yep quite possible. One thing is for sure UPS without a doubt runs a much leaner and tighter ship than FX does and FX knows it. You never see hiring at UPS like you do at FX in every job function. I don't know for guys who are the highest paid in every job catagory at UPS there are a lot of unhappy people over there.

The thing with unhappy people at UPS is that the pay and benefits are very good. The pressure and demands the company places on its employees for the pay can be rough. They take honest days work for an honest days pay to a new level. There are quite a few people that can't cut it. Especially in this generation where many expect things to be handed to them.

I hope FX doesn't furlough. FX announced 6.7% decline in express which is 2/3rd of revenue for the company. It doesn't look too good. UPS announced last quarter that there was a 5% increase in next day air traffic. This was the highest since 2006. Fred won't put up with that. When UPS bought TNT , Fred went on a buying spree because he knew of the ramifications of the TNT acquisition with UPS. TNT was a lot more than instant business in Europe. They are huge in China and Latin America. That will hurt FX once the acquisition takes place.

If the price is right, the 767 can replace the DC10 as well as the A306. Of course FX will also consider the A332F as a slight increase in capacity, so the question will be if US economy will recover from the Wall Street crises eventually. I do not expect a big order for this replacement.

FX has already selected the 767-300 freighter for a replacement for the MD-10. Not to say they might not someday get and A330 but all indications are they are moving in a Boeing direction. I would be surprised to see an all Boeing fleet at some point in the future at FX

I don´t know if Fedex would want so many different types in their fleet as they have now, 757s and 767s might be the way to go for them.

If they do intend to replace the A300 with a new airtype I think the A330-300 P2F might be an option for them. Every time I read a statement by Airbus regarding a possible A333F I think Fedex, but I might be wrong on this.

For me the -300F makes more sense as the -200F as Fedex does not need the extra range the A330-200F offers, as they already have 767s and 777s for that job. Question is, if they can fill an A330-300 everyday on the routes that now see an A300 ?

It will forever be a McDonnell Douglas MD 80 , Boeing MD 80 sounds so wrong
