It was reported on Friday that the Department of Transportation having received four bids to supply air service for APN has chosen SkyWest. As many of you know Delta has wanted to pull service from there. They have been providing service to DTW until a replacement carrier could be acquired. The new service to both Delta hubs will begin in the fall. I am very happy for APN in achieving this new service. I applaud their hard work for a job well done.

I believe you may have been referring to this from this previous thread:

Correct me if i'm wrong but I believe the flying will be at risk on SKW's part. It's no a traditional CPA however it will be business as usual. You will be able to buy your tickets on DL.com and redeem SkyMiles.

Pretty much. SKW is making good money out of both UA and DL's inability/unwillingness to effectively service many markets---especially the EAS markets, which oddly neither UA or DL's marketing teams want to deal with. And yet, the passengers win by keeping their curret booking, keeping their mileage, thus creating further (mis-aimed) loyalty to the major.

Is there enough market to support both DTW and MSP out of APN? Alpena is a pretty small town. Not sure if it has the catchment area to support two airports as some of the catchment area could go to Pellston or even MBS

Depends on where the triffic is flowing. If it's generally to the south (FL) then either hub would get the job done. If you're talking west coast, same deal; both would work. Now anything going east to the large business centers such as NYC, BOS, DCA, etc. etc. DTW would make much more sense because a flight to MSP would be a lot of back-tracking.
