I took off around 11.15 am and next to the DHL 757 I am sure it was a VC10 parked up. It was Grey with a believe a black outline of a person on the tail. It could have been the IL 62 but I am don't think it was.

Sorry no pictures and can anyone advise what I saw.

I believe the only remaining VC-10s still flying belong to the RAF and used as tankers. I believe all of them have a tan color paint, and of course the British military roundel.

So, I doubt it was a VC-10 you saw today, it must have been an IL-62.

Here is a picture of the grey livery on an Il-62 of FV.

7U also flies the Il-62, but I don't know what they look like.

There are about 25 Il-62s still flying for airlines/charters in the world today.

Could be a KAPO IL62 freighter as well, they visit TLL from time to time.

Thanks. The last several times I saw RAF VC-10s they were all in the desert tan livery.

NATO provides air cover for the Baltics and various countries rotate aircraft through as part of that along with the AWACS out of Geilenkirchen.

That cold explain why RAF tankers were at TLL.

i think it was a VC10 but with the strange tail marking and the fact that there was a civil walkway ladder (not sure of the correct name) upto the front of the aircraft i was confused. i have to assume that even after the tanker conversion, the pilots enter and leave as they would when the aircraft was an airliner.

from the photos on a.net it looked more like the VC10 than the IL-62.

I didn't know they had VC-10s in desert pan colours. I see, well I saw them reguarly flying over my house near HAJ but I never saw one in desert colours.

It was most likely VC10 as there was a big NATO exercise in Estonia that ended a few days ago. The exercise included several A-10s together with one KC-135 and also some UK troops.
