...just tooooo sad to see all these wonderful airlines go bust, due to the brain children of stocks and banks. Had we no crisis, I am sure they would have made it.

Kinda sick that in this day and age, the banks can make or break the airlines.

You beat me to it telling about this. I once applied and got accepted for Air Finalnd as Cabin Crew. At the end I chose not to accept the place on the course. If I had decided otherwise, I'd be unemployed now. I hope all those who lost their jobs today will find new ones soon!

It's not long ago when they kept telling how well or at least ok they were doing.

And another link: http://www.hs.fi/talous/Air+Finland+...iin++lennot+peruttu/a1305577884461 (also in Finnish)

There are about 1000 passengers which are in holiday, and they have a Air Finland ticked that don't count now anymore..!

This is the statement in english:
Oy Air Finland Ltd, has ceased operations, leaving the bankruptcy petition. All Air Finland flights from 26.06.2012 has been canceled. We are deeply sorry for any ensuing inconvenience to customers.

Always a shame to here - I flew on OH-AFI back when it was leased to (then almost bankrupt) airline FlyZoom for my flight to JFK - the plane wasn't anything to write home about but I did like their colourscheme.

I hope for the best for all the crew involved with them.

On a side note, who do you think will take their 757s?

Kev.

Better the banks make or break them. The other option being the state-run method.

Airlines that do not provide positive returns will be shut down, on way or the other. And rightly so.

Very sad to hear. I love their paint jobs on the 757. I sure hope the workers find work quick. I don't understand why airlines like those in the US can go chapter 11, and continue operating while fixing itself. Is this not an option on the other side of the pond?

Do you think Finnair will take over the 75s or will they be sold elsewhere?

No, finnair has actually 4 B757 and these will be sold, so I dont think that Finnair will buy these because Finnair is phasing out the B757.
Finnair will be an all Airbus Fleet, Embraer 190 are going to Flybe Nordic I guess.

Yes, Finnair only has four 757's left. They all will be gone soon (not for sale, those all are leased) and replaced by the new A321 with sharklets from 2013, AY was the launch customer for that a/c type.

DL doesn't fly any 757s with RR engines, and Fedex doesn't want any wingletted 757s at the moment. Of course that can all change.

Yet another Lila Designed airline livery leaves the skies. Delsey/VG, Air Holland, Air Finland, VLM (though the latter was purchased before it went belly up, I think). Seriously, it's like the Airways Magazine curse.

That was my thought.

Eventually I see FedEx working with Boeing for a wingleted certified 757BCF. But that is all about the money and there are enough non-wingleted 757s for now.

No, not again.....I think we lost a lot of good airlines between 2010 and now!! Next in line, based on what i read (or still read) is Kingfisher airlines in India and American Airlines has been in trouble in recent months.

Semi qualified guess: Going back home to the owner - the leasing company.

When Malev folded a while ago their planes painted one long line on Flightradar from Budapest to (I think) Shannon.

Could they change the engines ?

Except for the L-1011 and B777ER's. Maybe they do not want to have two different engines on their B757. Of course they have two different engines on their B777 fleet and three on their B767?

25 cotparampguy : I meant Delta could decide it wants RR 757s. Not like they don't have enough subfleets as it is, why not add one more?
26 etops1 : USAirways is in the Market for some 757's .

33 TupolevTu154 : One of their 757's is sat at LGW after having been re-registered for FedEx with Air Finland titles painted out, minus wiglets.
34 Ideekay : You have some photos? I'm just thinking, why they remove the winglets?
35 Giancavia : Maybe Finnair could take Air Finlands badass paint scheme and apply it to their horrible looking fleet of dullness.
36 Finnaviation : OH-AFJ never had winglets.
37 TupolevTu154 : I don't have any photos I'm afraid, but I see it every day driving to and from work! The winglets haven't been removed, the aircraft never had them i
38 VV701 : It is taped "N967FD" and has been since at least 22 June. But I am not sure it is registered as such yet.
39 ASalo : OH-AFM and AFI were recently ferried to Perpignan with subsequent callsigns OHAFM and OHAFI. Presumably the positioning was done by the owner, ILFC. I
