Is the NDIA (New Doha International Airport) ... QR's new home opening on 12/12/12 as scheduled?
I could not find any reliable progress information or media release regarding the opening date, which is nearing. As QR is one of the largest and premium 5-star airlines right now ... the opening of this new home impacts a lot of travelers in Asia, Middle East, and Europe. Anyone got reliable updates?
That is the thread for NDIA, where I am the moderator. It tells you up to date progress, articles, all in one thread. Sometimes, updates can be slow; but when there is one, its there.
So far, the airport is in a massive recruitment drive. DEPA, the company awarded the 900m$ contract for the interior of hte 17 passenger lounges has been terminated of its position. I am not sure if that affects the progress or not.

From what I have heard from industry insiders, NDIA is on schedule to open 12/12/12. However, it will not be operational, except for perhaps some cargo operations. My prediction is it will take a full year before QR is operating fully at NDIA.

I have a feeling that the horrible fire in the Vilagio Mall which has become a national embarrassement for Qatar and which has highlighted a huge lapse in quality standards for all recent built projects in the Country could cause a problem for the new airport with inspectors making sure that every little bit is working correctly!

Incidentally, I was in Qatar while this Mall fire tragedy happened. It indeed was a national failure and will certainly bring about more serious checks and balances in the relentless construction all over that little country. So it appears that 12/12/12 won't work for NDIA ... maybe it'll be "inaugurated" without real passengers ... but my plan to travel through DOH this December doesn't seem to have hope.

I thought QR already stated they wouldn't move over to NDIA for a while?!?
Does anyone know the schedule for QR to move to NDIA? How will that work, I thought both would have the DOH code, or will NDIA have a new ICAO airport 3 letter code? (I couldn't find it with a quick search.)
