A pilot that just came off one of our flights (WN here in LIT) said the runway lights just went out in MDW and flights are diverting everywhere!! Anyone else heard anymore?

Midway is showing closed at the moment with a 2nd Tier grounds top in place. Due to airport lighting.

The ground stop message says, "All field lights OTS, airport closed"

The LiveATC recordings are pretty entertaining. Nothing too interesting, but sounds like the line to 4R was pretty long and they were parking pretty close to each other. After the aircraft started to go back to the gate, they city wouldn't let them move without a "follow me" vehicle. Better safe than sorry I suppose. A National Guard Huey had to divert to Lewis University Airport after the city wouldn't let them land at MDW, even with night vision goggles. Definitely an interesting night at MDW.

Volaris diverted to STL. An MCI-MDW flight looks like it arrived and landed without incident.

I was at MDW and we were taxing to the runway right when the lights turned off. Sat out their for about a hour and half and the whole time the lights would turn on and 2 minutes later cut out. When we started to taxi to the gate, the lights turned on and the pilot cranked up the left engine and put down the flaps but tower said no way. The tower wouldnt even let the national guard helicopter land with their night vision. Inside the airport was insane. 2 hour wait to talk to some one and it was like this at every gate even at 610am when we ended up leaving.
