Latest news and some follow ups;
-UA is starting EWR-IST this month. Welcome to Turkey and Happy Landings!
-Yet another record at IST. On June 29th, 542 landings, 555 take offs, making it the busiest 24hrs ever.
-A new transit tunnel at IST, from what I can read "international to domestic", is in place. How is it?

-TK announced flights to IAH, but Temel Kotil says not yet since no planes, where is this 77W coming from?
-Seabird started operation with a single Twin Otter, Golden Horn at Istanbul to Alacati. Best of luck to them!
-Tailwind is the latest operator allowed to fly to Gazipasa in Alanya.
-TK receives its 4th 739ER TC-JYD and also another 321 TC-JSB, and a 738 TC-JHN.

I was part of that record on the 29th
Also noticed the new access point from domestic into international; next to gate 201 from which my flight departed. Unfortunately, some bad planning again, as the lack of flight info monitors (displaying all gate information) confuses pax arriving from domestic looking to make their international connection.
On a different note, Turkish Do&Co catering disappointed again. I am actually a big fan of Do&Co and still think they add real value to the TK product. However, over the last few months the catering has deteriorated in quality.
MK_INT_IST_BC_HM3_GID (AFAIK, longer routes such as LIS get HM4 which is same food, larger portions)
Assorted Turkish Appetizers (Got this for at least 60% of my short haul/mid haul flights) and Stuffed Eggplant marinated in olive oil as starters. The eggplant soaked in poor quality olive oil and gave me a heavy stomach for the rest of the day.
I have to agree with the comments in last months thread that the pasta is not that good.
In short, it seems that Turkish Do&Co has reduced portions and increased the oil content of the catering. Apologies for the long post and amateur photos.

Sunexpress is having some rough days.
After having 6 aircraft's on the ground last week due to lightning strikes, bird strikes and other technical reasons. This Sunday morning two Sunexpress B737 airplanes hit eachother (wing-tip and vertical stabalizer) while parking in to gate 19 & 20 at Stockholm Arlanda airport. Article in swedish:
By experience, those 2 parking spots in Stockholm are quite tight. Still, I believe the pilots will get the blame as usual. I guess this means I'll be flying some SunEx flights this week as well

Hey, no worries, the longer the better. Photos are great.
TK trying to save money by reducing portions or quality? Seems like it.
Any idea if this means back to profitability at least, seems like the stock is doing lot better last month.

You cannot save money from food! I hate the stupid story of removing one olive from each serving and gaining million dollars. Someone has to teach them what is the opportunity cost and what you lose for each gain! I cannot calm down when it comes to food.
Where TK loses money is not the service nor crew salary. Profitability disappears for the lack of organizational structure. They should introduce again something like performance evaluation.
Warmest welcome to Seabird and wish them the best. I see these small aviation companies as little family businesses in small towns.

Spot on, typical US business model (not limited to airlines), and unfortunately this mentality has spread worldwide. Not to mention TK has raised the fares of Comfort Class (some segments substantially) recently. I don't mind the the increase itself (I understand they have to make profit) but please at least maintain the product standard, at this rate I might as well fly with Y to save a few hundred bucks

Well....we love rumors.
I have heard the 15 x 330 also, not the 748.
Enough second hand 332s out there I think, no need for a new order.
But knowing TK, they want to get something extra out of the deal. In terms of leverage, this doesn't make sense.
Like if they go for the 748, they should get cheaper/earlier 77Ws/777F or some early 787s with it.
Or, "I would buy 15 330s if you give me a deal on the 350 or the 380"
Also in the last months "wing" said similar things about a 747/777 type new order.
Temel Kotil quoted saying they can't start IAH, no 77Ws avail.

Thanks for the encouragement TK787! I think I will order KSML on TK intra-Europe from time to time to have some variety.
Another interesting article by CAPA on TK's North American expansion. I know we have talked about this many times before, but the article mentions as MIA for the most likely candidate of 2013. I guess TK will look to lease some extra capacity (777?) if further expansion is planned as suggested in the article below.

Oh god, please no more second hand or dumped planes. I am sick and tired seeing different cabin configurations on every plane.
In btw, I heard about more 777w and 748 order rumors. Guess everyone talk about his/her favorite plane
333 orders seems to not feasible now due to lack of range for most US routes. If TK has a very good deal for 748, may order and use spare 777w s for newly announced routes.

TGS side of the house is killing the operations of TK. I was on TK 3 a week ago (the early morning IST-JFK flight about 95% full) and they were off loading cargo from the plane when we were supposed to board. The aircraft was at the gate for 2 hours before the boarding time. You cannot tell me that you are unable to turn a 330 around in 2:30 hrs in a hub.
Checked all the flights that day and all 3 IST-JFK flights were about 1 hour late. This is really bad if you have connections.
Of course nothing has changed in last 2 decades that I have been flying this route: no pre boarding, no boarding announcements , stampede at the boarding time..
TK is NOT the best airline in Europe, and in my opinion deserves only 3 stars .. not 4 ..

The ex-9W 77Ws that left TK for TG were not that bad. SQ and EK have more different cabins than TK actually. Unless the cabin configuration is inferior to the main product; a little variety is exciting. The situation regarding the narrow-body is another story though.
Seems like handling the baggage is a worldwide problem. I used TK 002 about a week ago and we were late about 2.5 hours just because of slowness of luggege handling . I always find boarding a plane in istanbul (I am talking about US flights) easier then boarding a İstanbul plane from NY . Also whatever the reason is , taking all your luggages to a agent and taking them back to check area and then lining for a passport control where only 2 or 3 agents working is a serious headache even for US citizens .I wonder how diffcult it is for others .
By the way can the pilots of 777 see the engines of their plane from where they sit ?
