Spirit Applies For Dallas - Cancun Route

Spirit Airlines applied with the DOT today, to add yet another DFW route. This time they propose service to Cancun Mexico commencing November 2012 using mix of A319/A320 equipment.

Planned schedule:

Eff November 10 - Sat Only
NK368 DFW-CUN 0730-1005 A319
NK365 CUN-DFW 1055-1345 A319

Eff March 10, 2013 - Sat
NK368 DFW-CUN 0730-0905 A319
NK365 CUN-DFW 0955-1345 A319

Eff April 25, 2013 - Tue/Thu/Sat
NK368 DFW-CUN 1455-1725 A319
NK365 CUN-DFW 1825-2105 A319

Eff June 13, 2013 - Daily
NK368 DFW-CUN 1105-1335 A320
NK365 CUN-DFW 1825-2105 A320

Doesn't block WN from DAL. After Wright is lifted, flights can only fly to domestic destinations, so WN still wouldn't be able to fly DAL-CUN n/s.

HOU/IAH-CUN, on the other hand, has the potential to be a blocking move, depending on how many other carrier already fly that route.

Also, in doing further research, I came across this:

Looks like DFW-BWI and DFW-HOU/IAH (airport unknown at this point)start in September, and DFW-OAK/LAX start in April.

I consider it a draw after BOSDFW fizzing out. The question is will SY fight it out as NK seems to be more likely to cut and run.

SY has always been tour runs out of DFW, mostly the summer added flights.

This route is still open for booking though; at least for August. Didn't check beyond that.

Looks like it is bookable (per their website) through December 7th.
On September 5th, the flight times for DFW-BOS change to 8:05a departure and 12:35p arrival

Good info. I checked myself and it looks like it is actually bookable only through November 7.
