Listening to LiveATC.net's BOS clearance delivery frequency, the controller is telling multiple a/c requesting to push back that the field will be closed from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. ET, telling them to sit on the gate for an hour.

Does anyone know why Logan will be closing? fly.faa.gov doesn't show any traffic management programs in effect - but if the airport really does close for an hour in the middle of the day, I'd assume there would be a program in effect to hold inbound traffic at their departure city.

Blue Angels and military aircraft flyover is scheduled during that time for Boston Harbor and the Charles River as part of Harborfest.

FAA is showing

Quote:
Due to AIR SHOW, there is a Traffic Management Program in effect for traffic arriving General Edward Lawrence Logan International Airport, Boston, MA (BOS). To see if you may be affected, select your departure airport and check "Delays by Destination".

It was fantastic...at least over at Wollaston Beach! They came over and did at least 2 low level passes...very, very cool.

Happy 4th

This happens every year at Logan, but is usually longer than 1hr. It can also happen when the tall ships come in and leave depending on the winds.

Here is a video showing all seven (yes, seven) of them taxiing and departing Logan. Watch the cool little maneuver when 5 & 6 lift off.

I watched them perform at PSM on Sunday afternoon. Absolutely fantastic to watch. Especially from outside the perimeter fence rigth at the runway threshold. I think that location puts us much closer to the action than the people who paid to watch it from the inside, as the planes pass right over our heads with seemingly every maneuver they make, which doesn't happen if you're in the "viewing area" inside the airshow.

Exactly! I was there for the Saturday show. I parked my car at the Lowe's/Target shopping center and rode my bike the rest of the way...sitting in the grass near the end of the runway and probably not far from where you were. I wasn't going to spend money to pay for what (honestly) was a mediocre flying day and a static display. Anyway, you're right about this vantage point. That high-speed 'sneak attack' they always do came right overhead...literally. And many times the F-18s would scream right over us when they individually broke out of their 'show-center' formation.

Being at 'show center' isn't the perfect place to be, when you factor all these things in.
