Very few infact.

Many many private jet charters into Luton and Farnborough for rich famous influential and powerful.

Some charters to bring teams coaching medical officials and security for politically sensitive countries.

Some Freight charters with equipment and horses etc .... To Stansted.

The majority are/have been arriving in dribs and drabs on normal scheduled services.

There may actually be an increase in outbound UK departing inclusive tour and LCC tourists over the time period as it is the start of the school summer holidays in England and Wales !

I would find very little incentive to add service to the games. LON airports are slot controlled anyways, with plenty of exisiting service,. Why would you add seats to the market when you can just enjoy a higer yield with the existing seats.

Most airlines at Heathrow would be operating to their highest capacity anyway during the summer so there isn't any space to add anything extra.

Oh ok, thats interesting. I was thinking that in NZ for the rugby world cup last year, NZ, QF, AR and a few others put on extra flights to cope with demand so i figured the olympics would be similar.

Also read an article about another airport being used for extra flights for the games, but maybe its just charter stuff

It is interesting that I've gotten two different promotional emails from DL recently with "sale" fares to London for the summer. The most recent was on July 3rd for $1776 business class and half price economy fares for dates July 4 through August 15. Made me wonder if the Olympics were actually hurting the "normal" summer traffic to London, folks actually avoiding it due to Olympics crowds??? Was just surprised that DL would have "sale" fares to London in July or August, 2012.

I'm sure they would love to fly us over there, it's getting a place to stay at that would be the challenge.

1776? Lots of significance with that number! Are you sure it wasn't to celebrate the 4th of July?

Maybe. My parents went to Europe this past week and were planning on going later and travelling to London but decided not to to avoid the "crowd" and... "security isues" () But, at the same time a lot of people will be travelling to London for the Olympics, I imagine.
