AR Trying To Get The PU Market Share By Force

In a non surprising move, the Argentinian authorities rejected the application of two airlines ( BQB and SOL ), to start additional flights between Uruguay and Argentina, after the closure of PU. Both airlines requested 50 more flights ( 35 and 15 respectively ), and the Uruguayan authorities approved the flights immediately, but ( oh surprise !! ) the Argentinian regulators rejected the flights, since they are "saving" that traffic for the money guzzler AR.
The manager of AR, Mr. Recalde, in a PR move, declared to the press that "AR is compromised with the connectivity in the region and will work to maintain the trading and tourist links between the two countries".
Yeah, right....

Translation could be done kinda "AR is compromised with the monopoly in the region taking advantage the Uruguayan part doesn't exist"

Gonzalo, buddy, you don't seem to understand that a country has sovereignty over its aírspace. The government of Argentina is not here to grant favors o permissions to foreign carriers. Furhtermore it is still an error to be fixed to have LAN flying domestic routes in Argentina. Your posts show that you are much more concerned on your neighbours than on your own business. Makes one wonder on the motives of such behaviour.

My own business are fine. But having a neighbour who breaks the ( written and non-written ) rules of the game, not once, not twice, but dozens of times ( just a few "little" examples : 2001 debts, YPF, DJAI's, LAN out of AEP, Mercosur meaning nothing...), is just.... uncomfortable...
You seems to forget that the company that ruined Pluna, Leadgate, and the head of that company Mr. Campiani, are both from....Argentina. Now the Argentinian authorities, instead of looking for solutions ( like BQB and Sol requests) for the thousands of people affected, are trying to obtain some benefit for AR....curiously managed by "Cámpora boys", all friends of the CFK club....Come on !!!... the smell of corruption is so strong that can travel beyond the Andes and I can feel it from here !!!!
But well, like we say here, " no hay peor ciego que el que no quiere ver"...
I hope some day Argentina can find a group of politicians with the genuine goal of making that beautiful country a great country.... but I read and read and read... and the horizon looks so empty...

There is a heated debate right now in Uruguay, since the excuse of a big debt with some employees of the ex-Varig/Pluna ( which the government used for the closure of the airline ) is apparently totally false. But there is no hope for Pluna IMHO, at least not the Pluna we all knew, with more than 76 years of history. Maybe the Uruguayan Congress can shift the blame from one side or another ( it's only a political game ), but the airline, as we know, is dead.

It goes without saying that the Argentinian government "has sovereignty over its own airspace" and that it is not there to "grant favors and/or permissions to foreign carriers".....however; isn't it also the responsability of any government to support its citizens by encouraging competition, thus providing more choices and by extension, more competitive costs?

It is the responsibility of a reasonable government that believes in efficient markets. However, we have confirmed once and again that the Fernandez de Kirchner government is neither reasonable nor committed to efficient markets. Protectionism and state-intervention in the economy are staples of her administration and, thus, what the government is doing with respect to Uruguayan airlines is not surprising at all.

Of course the whole thing stinks. Sol is an Argentinian airline, so there is no question of handing over anything to a foreign carrier. Instead the authorities hand the lot over to AR.

And also BQB is owned by an Argentinian citizen, Mr. Juan Carlos Lopez Mena. The excuse of the "foreign carriers" is absolutely unjustified, since both airlines are owned by Argentinians. The Uruguayan government issued the ex-PU flight permits immediately, trying to help the stranded people, only to receive this "wonderful" action from the other side of the river. A real shame.
