I noticed two Spirit flights today from LGA to FLL have equipment designated 734

http://flightaware.com/live/flight/NKS705

Is this an error in the tracking system or are these aircraft being leased to add capacity?

Most likely an error. Flightaware quite often has wild aircraft types shown on their site.

It's not an error. NK is going through a fleet shortage currently and have an Omni 757 and an Xtra Aorways 737-400 operating for them. Both are doing LGA-FLL runs

I am curious, is it short of lift due to the increased summer schedule, planes undergoing C checks or unskd heavy mx?

I think it's all of the above. They have some a320s coming online soon. Also some a319s are starting to go. I know that n588nk went tech a few weeks ago so that contributed to it.

I have seen both the 757 and 734 at LGA recently. The 734 I saw on July 4 had Bahamasair titles.

I want to live in an old and converted 727...

Really?! Could this be a sign of something to come, or was it possibly on lease to Bahamasair previously?

It also had the Xtra logo on the tail. I'm sure it was just an a/c that had been on previous lease to Bahamasair

That's what I thought.

BTW, I believe the aircraft is N772AS

So a former Alaska 734, owned by XTRA, back from Bahamasair, and now operating for Spirit?

Keeps your head spinning....

I saw it a few months ago. At the time it was an ex-Alaska Air, owned by Xtra, operating for Direct Air into Myrtle Beach before going to Bahamasair and Spirit.

Which probably means that it has a more comfortable cabin then your regular - brand new NK aircraft....

Of course it is! Everything is! Riding a bike from LGA to FLL would be!

So then I guess its safe to say UP ended its wetlease with Xtra? or maybe this aircraft is just used during downtime?

I'm guessing it is safe to say that they ended the wetlease. It was probably for the winter. I'd imagine that's their busiest season?

The Omni 757 has not come into LGA for some time now over a month I have not seen it. Xtra Airways seems be the first flight out and last flight in... with one turn in between.

That is the correct reg for the said aircraft

Does anyone know which Xtra Airways 734 (if any) now operates for Bahamasair out of Freeport?

It has to be either N279AD, N41XA, or N43XA.

Is it possible they have more than one because some of the turn they have here for the 734 are only about 30 minutes. Can they fuel up, offload, and reload and 737-400 in about 30 minutes?

That and Bahamasair took delivery of another 735 late last month. Which could spell out they're ready to use their own equipment for the FPO-RDU/SDF/BWI/RIC flights.

So NK may see alot more Extra Airways equipment until they get their fleet back to normal ops. Say hello to added comfort.

I really hope they start flying the 734s of the LGA-MYR route. I'm on that flight at least 6-7 times a year and it is horrible! Especially since I'm 6 feet tall. It's horrible and I would love to have something more comfortable!

I do think that we will see more Xtra Airways operating for Spirit because they are dumping a319s faster than they are getting a320s. They've already gotten rid of 6 or 7 a319s, which is a shame, given the interior room and seat pitch of the a320s.

Nobody is "dumping" the A319, they are getting refurbished, you can always take the little dash-8 on UA from EWR if NK is so Horrible.... Also the Xtra Airways interior shows 150 pax on the 734 rows 1-26 just like the A319

Maybe because NK is the cheapest airline on virtually every route it flies, often even after fees?
