DL RDU-PVD Nonstop

When did Delta Connection's nonstop flight between PVD and RDU end? It seems like just a bit over a year ago there was a thread announcing the beginning of the service and yet now.........it's gone. Just like that. Anybody know when it ended?

Ended in September of last year I believe...it ended along with ALB. Didn't last too long...If I recall DL execs choose new destinations based on game of darts using the USA map.

Last year they had surplus CRJs from CVG/MEM drawdowns and awaiting the LGA slot swap that they experimented with a lot of point to point flying. I heard it actually did ok in the summer months and that it would have been feasible on a seasonal basis but with all the new LGA flying the spare a/c scene isnt what it was last year. (And this spring when they were planning the summer flying oil prices werent looking so hot)

RDU still has a pretty significant P2P operation for DL via the Connection carriers. I know the use of the term focus city has somewhat fallen out of use with DL, but it meets most of the objective criteria for that status.

When I worked for DL, I was the agent for RDU PVD pretty much every day last summer - somehow it seemed like I used to always be assigned it.

Some days it was booked to 34, other days to 3. We even had days where it was booked to 1.

It was a through flight to Orlando, I believe. Pulling up the PNR, it seemed like most people on the flight were headed down to Florida.

And with the latest deal with the 717's i can only assume the RJ flying with decrease and RDU will lose a majority of its P2P routes on DL connection.

Feedback from potential passengers that I heard was that it was 3-4X the fare as BOS-RDU service with multiple nonstop flight choices on at least 2 carriers (B6 and DL). With 1X CRJ service, it was a tough sell given those other factors.
