Nice to see more possible airlift goin into FPO. Back in the late 70's and early 80's I believe AC offered non-stop flights to FPO. Would be a nice addition to the seasonal WestJet service.

Link to article below 4th paragraph from the bottom speaks briefly to this in addition to new UA service from ORD to NAS starting Feb 2013

Makes you wonder why Bahamasair does not capitalize on NAS/FPO opportunities to Canada and colder markets in the US.

Panam, TWA, Ansett, Eastern.......AC next? Might be good for Canada.

I completely agree! Why not use one of the newer aircraft and create a charter type division to mimick what G4 does for Orlando/Sanford. Or simply add another route or two, to what they are doing for FPO.

I was thinking the same - but it's good news to see more service to NAS and FPO in particular no matter who is doing it.

UP could definitely schedule some new routes from NAS and FPO now that they have slackness in their scheduling with their new jets. They also are still flying the 732s along with the 735s. I dont know for how long though. Is the FPO-YYZ market big enough for two carriers though? Wish UA success on ORD-NAS. That flight is going to be really uncomfortable on a cr7. Hopefully they stick with this route because there IAD-NAS flight did not last long.

I know what you mean... American Eagle operated the FPO-ORD a few years back with an ERJ I believe. That too did not last long.

A government needs to take the bull by the horn and proclaim that UP is owned by the country, will be run by the country and take the necessary steps to ensure the carrier is viable. Last PM had at one stage stated that the carrier was in the national interest so lets work on that.

1. Get rid of the 732's - being done.
2. Reverse the 735 decision and get more modern 737's say 700 or heaven forbid a NG.
3. Fly pax into the major airports - Nassau, Eleuthera, Freeport, Abaco, Exuma - from the USA, let the local carriers do domestic, if UP has to do domestic let them use the smallest prop, possble smaller than the Dash 8's, even a joint venture.
4. Get rid of the Nassau centric, a Miami - Freeport - Exuma - Miami run something in that vein.
5. If the Bahamas is a great place then flights could be timed to get folks here, rather than overnighting in the USA with all the expenses, flights leave here in the morning and return late evening or early afternoon. In the winter time if the northern USA the cost is a killer to try getting pax out of in the early am.

Hey, I;m thinking of something different, oh, and get back in the charter business, that worked well in the mid 80's and I'm not talking about the EWR ones.

From what my friend tells me, UP suffers from being run by folk who do not wish to make ripples in the water or change things too much. It's taken them over 5 years to get those 737-500s! My friend was on the fleet planning board before deciding to go back to flying as the other board members (the management) were giving him migraines. They switched from getting more 737-200s to getting NGs, to getting A320s, to going for the new jungle jets, then to getting 757s, then back to 732s and finally the 735s.

My friend can't believe they went for the 500s. He says some 300s or 400s would have made far more sense and in the summer, they are leaving people behind all the time as the flights are fully booked and over booked. Anyway, I'm going off on a tangent!

Long story short: UP is run by folks afraid of change.

Naw, they are all political appointees, so whichever government is in power they have to kowtow.
There are many persons working at UP who have the knowledge and the skill to run the airline, unfortunately for them, their boss is an elected politicians who does not give them a good enough budget and say go to work.
Seems as if they are always trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.

Well, they have an F cabin and economy plus and I keep reading on here that CR7s are A-OK for a "premium" route such as EWR-ORD on AA, so I'm sure the pax will "love" flying ORD-NAS on a CR7.

It would really be great to see UP reach its full potential some day. The Bahamas is my favorite destination on the planet although I suppose that too much growth would certainly ruin the place. Just look whats happening to Bimini for example. Back on topic, I've always felt that UP had tremendous untapped potential if they could ever figure out how to put into action.

So are these 735's leased?

300's maybe, just maybe but 400's? Im no expert in the subject matter but with the very short flights between NAS and MIA/FLL/MCO which is where they only use the jets (and HAV) why dont they just add another flight during the summer? More than half the time they jets are sitting on the ramps and could be better utilized instead of leaving passengers stranded.

Allow some other Bahamian regional airline to operate the repatriation flights or send the Dash 8's and concentrate on bringing in Tourists.

Sounds like their flight operations and profitability model could take another review.

Id say keep it limited to FPO and NAS moreso because of the pre-clearance facilities which makes it easier for passengers and opens up more destinations at later departure times.

I thought so myself because although they currently have two 735s I notice that they are still flying their 732s. On peak days BAhamasair uses 3 jets. They have added flights on key routes like FLL, and MCO. MIA has stayed relatively the same in daily flights but MCO now has 3 flights for the summer. They could def use the fourth jet for some expansion

WOW, 3 now to MCO? didnt think Orlando was that big a market. I wish they would add a summer MCO-FPO flight with a Dash-8, year round would be nice. Hate that drive down to FLL to go home and AA connects in MIA but its way to expensive a fare.
