For anyone that might be nearby, care to catch it on film?

It's going in to Andrews Air Base, I'm not sure there would be anywhere to catch it on film there. But it's curious, this is the second arrival into Andrews in three days. Anyone know what it's doing?

Maybe Obama is meeting with Russian dignitaries.

Nice catch! Although, technically there has been an IL-62 in the US for quite some time.

Internet search engines are your friend. The head of the Russian Armed Forces, General Nikolai Makarov, is visiting his US counterpart, General Dempsey, at Pentagon. I suspect the IL-62 flights are related to that.

Whats the history behind that? Was it bought and then left?

That's not an Il-62.... if you look close, it is a British Aerospace VC-10....!

I don't wanna sound like a douche, but I hope you're kidding. That an IL-62. You can tell by the nose-up appearance, as well as the distinctive ugly-cockpit windows.

If you look on the nose, it does indeed say it's a VC-10. Can't remember if it was for a movie or a bad joke, but it was one of the two....

If you look up the registratio, it's an IL-62. I did do a double take though.

Yes, I am very much aware it is an IL-62. DDJohnson was making a tongue-in-cheek reference to the titles on the nose, and it's glaringly obvious nobody got it...

Looking at 'recent' satellite images on bing, seems that IL-62 is long gone from MXE, can anyone confirm?

Yes, it was scrapped on site 6-7 years ago now, along with an JT4 powered Air France 707 and an Intercontinental Airways JT4 powered DC-8.

I have seen them quite a few times over in KADW, along with some IL-96 and IL-86.

This means only one possibility - and yes, see you onboard! Btw the second (of four) DPRK aviation tours started this morning in PEK aboard Il-62M P-881, the least seen of Air Koryo's -62s. Let's wish them luck as they blast off from Beijing Capital on the aviation (and political, and historical) trip of a lifetime with daily flying aboard some very exotic hardware - Tu-134, Tu-154, Il-18, Il-62, Il-76, An-24, Mi-17. And in a week expect a glut of uploads to the a.net database and lots of Air Koryo safety cards on eBay!

Sad to know it was scrapped.

I flew once with OK-EBG on dec 29 1990 (PRG-ZRH - equipment change from the scheduled TU-154 ...)

Good job jetblast is paying attention - must remember how hard it is for humour to carry over onto an internet post!
