CLT is in the dead center of a huge storm cell and flights are diverting all over the place. CHS has seen a US 752 from SXM and is about to see US flight 1080 from TIST (a 762) that has been in flight for 4 hours and 55 minutes! IF anybody has any stories or spotting pics from these we would love to see them.
Also, who knows where a lot of these are going? I'm in Myrtle Beavh and my dad and I saw an unknown 757 flying over and we realized an hour later it was going from SXM to CLT and was circling over MYR before going to CHS. But, why are there flights departing but not arriving?

*2* diversions... Film at 11!
In all seriousness, TS are a way of live in the summer in the US. Hubs are not immune to WX.
The title of your post is somewhat ambiguous. Makes it sound as if there's a permanent issue with CLT Airspace... Suggest throwing a date or something in there.

As to your question about why flights are leaving but none going in? CLT may have a Ground Stop in place, or Flow Control issues (flights requiring more spacing on approach). Thus the diversions on inbounds. IAH has had it going on since the beginning of this past week. I have worked 5 days strait up at the gate rebooking connections because of the same problem. Summer time anywhere will always find Thunderstorms parking themselves right on top of a HUB. Today (SUN the 15th) finds DFW and IAH having issues at the same time. No flights leaving CRP on time to either destination this afternoon.
Actually we got 5 diversions in GSO as well.. almost ended up with a couple more on top of that but they snuck in a brief window when CLT opened up a single runway for a few minutes.

Quoting spiritair97 (Reply 5): First, I saw three diversions to CHS, 3 diversions to GSO, and 5 diversions to SAV alone. Maybe do your research before you start making remarks.
Even 10 diversions isn't a big deal in TS. To put it in perspective, CLT has hours of the day where they have over 70 arrivals an hour.
There were definitely more than 10. I just listed the ones I myself saw. Still, I think the people on those flights would beg to differ that they aren't a big deal.

Personally I would rather be diverted and delayed than to go down in a mass of twisted metal in a thunderstorm. I do not need to be anywhere badly enough to risk that. Beam me up!
