Just picked up ETD411 KUL-AUH coming across the Arabian Sea on HF, aircraft is Virgin Australia's B77W VH-VPE from selcal ! Thought I'd misheard at first but SBS data confirms. Wouldn't have thought that Virgin would have a spare plane as they seem to operate a fairly tight schedule.    I wonder what happened to the people planning to fly AUH-SYD on VAU30 ??

It was already discussed somewhere here. EY is using VS metal on its flights to KUL, at least on some weekly flights.

The VA 77W is operating EY411/418 every Sunday on partial wet lease from VA. This gives EY extra lift and also gives the VA aircraft something to do while it would otherwise be parked in AUH for 30+ hours.

Slight nitpick: VA.

I think I saw it on the "Aeroflot 7 hrs on the ground in MIA", but VA has a 34 hr ground stop in AUH to use the plane to KUL in the meantime.

cheers, Sveinn

Yup, has been that way since they started the SYD-AUH service... seems strange to me given, as others have said, they run a really tight schedule with the 77Ws. Assume it has to do with the way VA and EY have jointly structured their SYD-AUH services? Or perhaps to do with the crew rest requirements for VA crew with only a 3-weekly operation? Not sure, but yes it's good to see the aircraft working through that time.

Does the aircraft go out with Etihad crew or VA crew?

Wet lease would indicate it is using a VA crew.

There had been a thought to use the layover to do a tag-on service from AUH to Europe (Rome and Athens were pondered) but the economic downturn nixed that.

So the aircraft is flying SYD-AUH-KUL-AUH-SYD?

I hope they will bring back VA 77W to Phuket too! Rotation could be SYD-AUH-HKT-AUH-SYD,
darn, they can actually do MEL-HKT-AUH-HKT-BNE etc.
So sad VA is gone

Let's just blame it on yields.

Correct, VA29 / EY411 / EY418 / VA30

I understand it's a partial wet lease not a full wet lease... I believe in this case it's VA flight deck crew with EY cabin crew as opposed to a full wet lease which would be full VA crew throughout the aircraft.

I've got a couple of questions. On a full wet lease, would the VA crew wear EY uniforms or their own? Is there an EY cabin crew on board the flight? What's the duty schedule for this flight? SYD-AUH-rest-AUH-KUL-rest-KUL-AUH-rest-AUH-SYD?

So it's a damp lease?

Crew are VA crew in VA uniforms, though one EY cabin crew also travels as an 'ambassador'.

This is due to one of VA B77W out of service for maintenance, interior refurbishment and repainted in the NEW VA color scheme...

Which callsign does the flight use? Does it use V-Oz or Etihad?
