MEA has signed an MOU for 5 x A320NEOs and 5 x A321NEOs as well as options for 8 additional aircraft. These will probably act as replacement and cater for growth across the network.

Interestingly, they haven't made an announcement regarding replacement fleet for their long-haul A330 operations. Does anyone have any news or further updates?

Their 330s are fairly new, i think the oldest one is only 4 years old.

By the time they're looking to replace these, the A350 will be in service.

On a separate note, has MEA ever looked at flights to Australia?

Personally, I don't think they'll do it with a fleet this small.

Thanks, was just a random thought given the considerable expat Lebanese community in Australia (and New Zealand), but guess this market is sewn up by EK and EY.

SYD was dropped in 1999. Used to operate BEY-KUL-SYD on the 742s and occasionally on the A310s (the latter with tech stops in DRW and I believe DXB).

Rather off topic but does anybody know if there's still a direct flight between Asia and Beirut? Last I remember there was MH KUL-DXB-BEY, does it still operate? The Gulf carriers are sure covering that market very well.

The only hope would be an alliance hub to hub route, but even that I'm not sure would be viable. BEY-ICN or BEY-KUL seem very far fetched.

I do wonder if ME should have a China link as they are fond of Africa where ME has a nice offering.

Last i heard, that this route was cut by MH a few years ago, but not 100% sure

I think at one stage they did operate to SYD maybe in the early 90s maybe I think it was only for a short time thow. To see what they were like in the 70s and 80s during the civil war there, that airline deserves all the credit they get. To operate through those hard times to what they are like now hats of to MEA. I remember seeing one of their 707s at Heathrow in 1985.
