GOL, COPA, And Am Set To Order B737MAX

"Grupo Aeromexico SAB and Copa Holdings SA CPA +1.66% are nearing announcements of orders for an unspecified number of 737 Max aircraft, said people familiar with the deals. Aeromexico also is adding Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners to its fleet as part of its order, those people said.

Additionally, Gol Linhas Aereas Inteligentes SA GOL +1.85% is leaning toward ordering 737 Max jets from Boeing, despite an aggressive play by Airbus to win the Brazilian carrier away from Chicago-based Boeing, the people said"

Nice additions to the 737 Max back logs if true. I'm wondering weather these are new orders our part of the commitments Boeing has been talking about for the Max. And on top of all this a new 787-9 customer in AM if this report its correct.

My guesstimate would be that the Copa order is part of the commitments, while the AeroMexico order would be new, as we heard just a week ago that they were still deciding. GOL, I think, could be either.

Gecas (75) , Alafco (20), Avalon (15) are not firmed yet...only commitments... lets just count orders. I'm not convinced these 110 planes will be bought until there is an order. So who cares whether these rumored AerowMexico, Copa, GOL have been boiling in the mystical max couldron of commitments? Can we just stopped being lured into this kind of foolish numbers game. An order is an order. Right now...Max has 656 of them...period...I don't care what lay in the bush.

Anyone who has read any of my posts in the past knows that I am fond of the 737NG (The Evolve Threads, The 9ER success Threads), especially the 737-900ER. So naturally, I am excited by the prospects for the 9Max. But at the moment, quicker time to market and equal to or better performance (capability/efficiency) have the NEO outselling the MAX. Commitments don't reverse that trend, only firm orders. If we become disenchanted by sales numbers, do we start tallying Options too, MOUs too, LOIs too?

Let's stop guestimating with the Max and just talk about firm orders, a truly objective measure.

Of course I want both planes to achieve parity (which means neither manufacturer is settling, but being driven hard by the other)... It can be done by delivery slots, pricing, efficiency, capability, etc... What ever it takes. But only actual sales (orders) can determine if either plane has what it takes.

Sorry for the soap box posturing, but thread after thread of talk of commitments, lois, mous, I took a brochure, yada, yada, yada is beginning to just look like a silly attempt to detract from the headstart success the NEO is enjoying at the moment.

Discussing possible or projected future orders is a staple for a.net.

And the A320neo currently has 159 MoUs: AA (130), IZ (4), ME (10) and Avolon (15).

I am sharing a news story with fellow A.netters that WSJ reported. If you don't like it because its not about the success of the NEO , don't read it.

Are you aware of how the process of negotiations for such assets really works? I´ll simplify it for you: It´s many meetings, and not only between the customer and the supplier. It usually involves creditors, authorities, other companies etc. It´s a complicated process that at the very last minute when all is said and the ink is about to be put on the paper something happens and the order does not take place.

It´s perfectly valid to speculate when this process is going on. It´s also a measure of competitiveness which the inexistence of which seems to be the point of grievance you have when you only want to count firm orders.

Nonsense.
