According to the latest reports, Mexicana is to acquire 2 brand-new A319's after Sabena cancelled their delivery due to their financial problems. The A319's are to be finished by this coming winter season. Mexicana urgently wants to update it's fleet.

Great news. Anything would be better than the good, but old 727's. So I guess MX future fleet will be A319/A320 and 757/767(for planned service to FRA). Or should they get some A321s and A330s and go all Airbus?

Personally, I love to see MX go all Airbus. Can you imagine those A330-100's in MX's livery. I'd love to see AM go with new Boeing planes.

Is the A319 replacing 727s or F-100s? It seems a little too small to replace the 727s, yet a tad too big for the F-100s. Will it be working domestic/central america flights or international-USA/Canada flights?

Mexicana will get both A319 to replace two B722 that are going back to leasing company due to lease expiry. Anyone would say that A319 does not replace B722 because of different capacity, but Mexicana needs the A319 in order to have aircraft with the necessary range to start new flights to US and Canada. For example, UA's flights to the Mexico from the US are flown with A320's and A319's in low seasons, so Mexicana needs the A319 maybe for the Canadian routes or for US routes like EWR, which is now flown 4 times a week instead of daily because of low load factors. But believe me, you don´t want to be in MX's A320 five hours without TV monitors, it´s quite boring. Instead you can fly CO and get the B73G with flip up TV's.
Hope MX gets the flip up TV's for the A319 just like UA.

This is not a flight report but i would like to share my experience:
Im quite disaponited of the A320 service on MX, in fact my last flight (MEX-CUN MX357) on A320 could be qualifyed as the worst flight I have ever been. My flight was delayed 2 and a half hours because equipment failure on Buenos Aires. The plane was turned around in about 15 minutes (so no cleaning was made, you can imagine how dirty it was), when we made the take off roll I figured engines were too loud, louder than other A320, which is a quite silent plane, so you can imagine my brother (he's only 11 yr old) getting bored because no tv monitors or music on board, so he was playing with the on board phones , while I was trying to figure why we had two crew (2 Capts, 2 F/O, like 6 Flight attendants, and 2 maintenance people) on board, and paying attention to that distinctive sound. The captain work wasn´t good too, we landed 1/4 after the (threshold??? how do you spell it???) so I felt a very hard landing (my brother got scared while we were landing). Big difference when i got back on the MX757, which was not only a great flight but a very funny one because we had Mr. Bean on enterteiment system. Our other 2 flights (MTY-MEX-MTY) were on F100 which im very familiar to it, and from my viewpoint it is one of the best short-medium range plane.
So I would like to see MX with an all boeing fleet 737 & 757 for 722 replacement, 767 for europe and 717 to replace the F100. But maybe their plans are to get an all airbus fleet, which is good but not as good as an all-boeing fleet.

Thats great new. Mexicana definately needs more aircraft in its fleet in order to expand services.
Does Mexicana have any plans for its 727s in the future? I sure do hope they intend to keep them for a while, as other airlines are getting rid of them in favor of newer aircraft.
Regards.

Yeah AM744, it was an A320, that information was got form my parents who were at CUN before we got there, after they had a not very nice talk the gate agent and his boss stated that the plane had a failure at Buenos Aires Argentina, and it landed at Córdoba Argentina to repair it. My dad is an aviation fan and he found weird that Mexicana were flying 320's to Southamerica, but he couldn't get more info, so he didn't knew what was doing a 320 there. Could it be covering a 757 route?
In fact the A320 arrived at MEX to gate 17, and we got on the plane in the same gate 17 (flight was changed from 357 to 5357) and is was marked as a domestic flight (MEX-CUN).

BA:
As Far As I Know, MXA will replace the B727 with the A319, and maybe after the sell of Aeromexico and Mexicana will operate some B737 NG, but I´m not that really shure!!
The 727s will leave like this:
7 for 2001
and 13 for 2002.

Hello!
727's are to be replaced by both A319's and A320's, which for me is a very good idea. i just hope 727's are not retired and kept for cargo and charters.
No way an A320 was in EZE.
Regards.
