Effective with the beginning of the Summer Schedule in March 2013, Aer Lingus will add four extra weekly flights to the existing EI124/EI125 rotation (according to its website "Timetables" section). The new timetable looks like this:
DUB-ORD
Flight No. Depart Arrive Days of Service
EI 123 1130 1345 M - W - F - S
EI 125 1250 1515 M T W T F S S
ORD-DUB
Flight No. Depart Arrive Days of Service
EI 122 1550 0520 * M - W - F - S
EI 124 1845 0815 * M T W T F S S
Loads have always been heavy on the current daily flight. EI could probably sustain 2 daily flights to ORD. (come on SNN-ORD! )

Always good to see EI expanding and the fact they pretty much have Ireland - Chicago to themselves (AA's paltry seasonal 757 hardly counts) means this makes sense. But where is the aircraft coming from? IAD-MAD being dropped? Or one of the current USA- Ireland frequencies being decreased? The arrival time into DUB of 0520 is very early, similar to the BOS and JFK early morning arrivals so will the aircraft be used within Europe?
Think I've answered my own question. IAD-MAD isnt bookable past 27th Oct and isnt in the timetable for next year

I wonder if this increase in capacity is to try and discourage UA from opening ORD-DUB? Anyhow, any expansion on transatlantic by Aer Lingus after years of contraction is more than welcome, even if it is only increased frequency and not a new destination.
Although I maintain that UA would have a better chance of success on this route but you won't hear me complaining if EI decide to give it another go. Incidentially, are EI still operating out of the international terminal at ORD?

Quoting spiritair97 (Reply 2): What do you mean partly seasonal? The only reason I ask is because I didn't know they flew and am curious about their frequency.
AA operates ORD-DUB daily from April through October with the B763.

They are, unfortunately - they seem to operate solely into and out of Gate M5 on a consistent basis. When you disembark the plane, you go directly into the "boarding area" and are escorted by EI uniformed crew and signs to baggage claim downstairs (you can meet and greet people at the carousel), completely bypassing the immigration and customs area.
Next year there will be a half-hour window when both A330s will be on the ground here together so I imagine they'll assign M4 or M7 to the extra flight (M6 can only take narrow-bodies). I know all Terminal 5 gates are common-use but it's practical to have preclearance flights as close to domestic baggage claim as possible and get passengers out of the boarding area.

With AB looking at 1210-1525 and HU looking at a 1330-1535 and now EI, there's no room at the inn so to speak between the 1500-1600 hour. AA might try to get AB to operate out of L8 or L10 but there' nothing I've heard to confirm it.
Also, AA will probably submit for a 1530ish for AA186, so somethings going to have to give.
While T5 is a common use terminal for gates, it does make sense to park EI at M5. M4 or 7 like you said make sense, but there's nothing preventing them to be gated anywhere else in the terminal and EI's preference is, they'll take an open gate rather than wait for one.
I'll be talking wth EI and suggesting they go back to back with flights to make their lives easier. (Unless UA wants them over at T1) but they have widebody gate issues as well.
It's because of consistently excellent loads on the route. I've been on 12 EI 125s in the past three years and apart from the January - February period - loads have always been great.
In particular, the Business cabin appears to be performing extremely well on this route. I travelled DUB-ORD earlier this week and the load was 24/24 in Business, 100% in Y also.

All well and good then. Go EI! Lets have more days where we get this sort of news, particurarly in relation to the long haul network.

Only operates during the Summer, as said with an outdated 763. EI may not be SQ but their product DUB-ORD is far superior to that on offer on the 763 and in many cases are cheaper than AA on the route

with the Codeshare route between IAD - MAD With EI now finishing there is an A330 free'd up 3 times a week with the other 4 days being used on the increased ORD route. We could see EI opening a new route possibly back to SFO
