This video was produced by Western Airlines marketing at DFW, touting the combining with DL at DFW

The title seems a little misleading, though.......It was probably made after December 1, 1986 (when WA became a wholly owned subsidiary) and before April 1, 1987 (when ops combined).......

Neat Video. I never saw that Were Western Video. I kept a few, and break them out once in a while   The Best story I heard, was a Line Mech got pulled over Driving to Dallas in Texas, and the reason was. The Police Officer had been watching California License Plates all day driving East, and wanted to know what was going on   Its funny How fast the Time has gone. Its getting harder to find ExWAL AMTs left at Delta. Thanks for the link

I think I can narrow it down a little. The one guy talks about the satellite terminal and says "We'll begin construction on it this March. and it should be finished in 1988." So it sounds to me like the video was probably produced in January or February of 1987.

A December 1987 article in Texas Monthly Magazine about DFW called "All choked up" mentioned that Delta expects to complete the satellite terminal "next year" (1988)

Wow! Thank You very much for sharing this. I was working for Western/Delta during that time, but I don't remember ever seeing this video.

What all the Delta and Western employees say in this video was true. It admittedly the only merger I ever went through, but I can't see how any merger could possibly be any smoother. There were a few issues on the first day - very minor ones - but we had an excellent group of Delta employees up here at YVR to help us out.

Of course, there were things about Western we all missed, but I feel that we were very fortunate to merge with such a great company as Delta. They always treated us very well. Unfortunately, it all ended in 1998, when Delta pulled out of YVR. The end of my airline career, and time for me to move on.

DC10 Service from DFW to SLC! I remember a flight I took once, from SFO to SLC. Just over an hour. There was a full meal service for lunch! In F I can remember having at least 3 courses. We were certainly spoiled in those days!

Thanks again.

Cheers,
AY104

Like stepping back into the "Way Back Machine", neat video. What a difference in so many ways, 26 years makes. All the 727s scattering around DFW's ramp, so many memories.

Someone told me that WA ran a DC-10 from both IAH and DFW to YYC, can anyone verify this?

I guess it's possible, but I don't know of it. I had heard a rumor, once that the Canadian gov't. wouldn't allow U.S. carriers to fly any widebodies into certain Canadian cities. YEG and YYC were ones I had heard of, especially out of LAX and SLC.

Departed Flights shows in 1981 there was a Western / Continental interchange between Calgary and Houston, and a Western / Braniff interchange between Calgary and DFW, but both interchanges used 727-200s. Western did not have direct flights from Alberta to Texas at this time.

I think after Braniff shut down, Western did get Calgary-Dallas-Houston authority (bypassing Denver), but suspended the route by 1984.

That could be, because it wasn't operating by the time of the DL/WA merger.

That's a cool video. Its cool to see all of those 727s. I wish DL still had the DFW hub.

It may have been doomed from the beginning. Once AA made it a hub and had control of a/c movements (theirs and ours), they could control how quickly DL's flights got into and out of the gates and what their access was to the taxiways and they certainly did. That alone should have had some bearing on how profitable the DFW hub was.

Back in 1982 I remember doing weight and balance on a ANC YEG WA flight....
The flight came in from YEG and connected with another WA flight that went FAI -SCC
As I recall the YEG flight was a DC10 and it originated in IAH and was the "oil city run"
I recall this was part of the "midnight cluster f @#%k" in ANC and there was 3 DC10 sometimes 4 10's along with several 727's flights going to FAI, SEA, PDX, SLC, HNL,YEG, LGW.... It was a fun time in Wally world. WA had over 400 employees in ANC at the time.....

Awesome video-thanks for posting! One question I have from watching it is that Delta stated in the video that they ultimately were planning for 350 flights a day DFW. As we know they got to 250 at their peak. However to get to 350 would probably had made neccessary a new terminal. Were there plans back in day by DL to build a new terminal (probably due west from their then current one like what D would be) for that kind of expansion?

Never as far as I recall. Western did operate both DFW-YYC and IAH-YYC nonstop for a while in the early 1980s but can't recall anything other than a 727-200.

The airport was in heavy discussions with American to tear down terminal 2W (terminal B) and build one long terminal on the west side parallel to the main roadway that bisects DFW. Delta would then have gotten terminal 3E (terminal C) while all other airlines would have moved to 2E (terminal A). I believe this option was reviewed in depth in one of American's annual reports. Eventually American decided not to proceed, as they would have paid all this money for a new terminal while Delta would have gotten a lot of new terminal space, too, with having to pay anything.

Its Sad and a Joy working in the Same Hangar my Dad worked in, and up untill a year ago still being able to see WESTERN AIRLINES burned into the Paint over the Narrow Bay. At least there is a 727-200 in there now

Awesome. My first memory of aviation was of that paint scheme on the 737s. As a kid I thought every airplane in the world should have a big W on the side of it.
