The DOT Aviation Enforcement Office is out with two new consent decree fines.

First one Philippine Airlines was assessed a $80,000 civil penalty for deceptive advertising practices.

The DOT found that for a period after late January 2012, Philippine Airlines website displayed a fare matrix page that did not include required additional government taxes and fees. Consumer searches using the main booking path of the website were only informed of the total fare including taxes and fees to be charged after having selected desired flights and moved to the payment screen.

In a second violation, DOT entered into a civil consent decree of $80,000 against Santa Barbara Airlines for failing to properly disclose additional baggage fees consumers might be subject to on their booked flights.

The DOT found that Santa Barbara Airlines Spanish language website failed to disclose on its fare quotation screen the additional fees for baggage it charges for a specific itinerary per required consumer disclosure regulations.

Wow! never expected that they will be fined for this, considering that they offer 2 x 32Kg (2x 72 lb) free checked baggage on Y and 3 on J in their CCS-MIA-CCS run. I thought that they were fined because of the frequent delays, dunno if the DOT is aware of it.
