Well, now that DL has gotten rid of them, how many more years will ATA keep them in the fleet? Any speculation on the route and date for the last flight? I'm guessing it wouldn't be such a big deal with ATA though. Thanks.

ATAs fleet backbone is the L10-11 when it goes, the airline goes. Probably a while from now.

Your way off my friend. When the last L1011 goes the airline will be re-fitted with all new aircraft ( 737-800 and 757-300).There is also rumors of 767's down the road.

The L1011 will contnue to operate our military and PHH contracts as well as other charter work but will not be the backbone of the airline within a year.

ATA's objective is to reach a point of 94% schedule service and 6% charter.

I love the aircraft but it's just not for scheduled service.

...and why is that?

The L1011s aren't extremly old.
Tell me if I am wrong, but I heard that they plan on keeping them for the next 3-5 tears.
Is that true?

Also, how can a 737, 757 or even 767 replace an L1011?
The L1011 surpases those in capacity and range?

The L1011 is very high is MX costs and fuel. I work with them every day and I can tell you that they are not for scheduled service. ATA has taken them off all scheduled service markets.

The reason that those aircraft can replace them is becuase we are going to be 94% sked service...we don't need 362 seats on those routes.

The 500's will be around for the next 4-5 years from what im hearing and the rest will be around for at least 2 years.

I would like to see the 767-300ER as a partial replacement.

Not true. I'm showing sked service LA-HNL, LA-OGG-HNL. I'm not sure if they'll keep those this winter...

Those routes are considered partial scheduled service. The actual customer is Pleasant Hawaiian Holidays.

These routes will continue to operate as L10's unless we eventually purchase or lease 767's. I have also heard rumors that the 757-300 may due a few routes out of either SEA or SAN to HNL/OGG.

I think the future of the L10 at ATA really depends on if ATA keeps the US military personnel transport and Pleasant Hawaiian Holidays contracts.

I expect them to be completely gone by 2007 as ATA replaces them with refurbished 767-300ER's from lease fleets.

Last summer I flew SFO-HNL United 747 - 200 because I knew it wouldn't be around much longer.
The next time I go to Hawaii, it will be the Hawaiian DC-10 or ATA L1011 .
If they both dump their tri-jets, then I'll try to hop on the Air Philipeans or Singapore A340 that stops at HNL if that's possible.

I would hate to fly 5-6 hours over the ocean in a 737 or 757.

The long bodied ones 100/150 will be around for some time on the LA to Hawaii and SFO to Hawaii rtes. Like Fly ATA said it is just to large for 95% of our scheduled rte service.

An ATA L1011, No. 192 came and picked up our rotation from kamis in saudi in 1993. Snapped a photo of it after it arrived on the ramp. Since then I occassionally have seen it here in MKE when ATA ran funjet to LAS a few years ago.

Any idea if ATA will get 777s to replace the L-1011s ? Capacity wise they would be pretty similiar ; about 362 for L-1011 1s and 50s and a 777 could easily hold that many. The777Man

Need a Boeing 777 Firing Order....Further to fly....CI, MU, LX and LH 777s
