What Happen To Air Jamaica Airbus Fleet?

Air Jamaica had an all Airbus fleet a few years ago. They had A342, A343, A320, and A321's. They got rid of the 340's first when they stop flying to London and had narrow body Airbuses. Now they got bought out by Caribbean Airlines and have a fleet of B737's. Does anyone know what happened to their Airbus fleet? Did Caribbean airlines paint their 737's to have Air Jamaica colors?

Caribbean Airlines' planes are in Caribbean Airlines colors and are saying that way for the forseeable future. The Air Jamaica aircraft have a sticker down low that reads: "Operated by Caribbean Airlines" and CaribbeanAirlines' planes have an Air Jamaica sticker down low as well. As for crossfleeting, I believe they do do it. Caribbean Airlines inherited many 737-800s from the BWIA merger, ao they proably saw more possibilites with them. Plus, I think Air Jamaica's Airbuses were rather aged, so probably not as profitble as the Boeings when you factor in fuel, mainentance, and other things. Fleet commonality was also probably a factor. It seems that Caribbean Airlines is loyal to Boeing anyway, as they have ordered, (and recieved one of) 2 ex-LAN 763s. The Caribbean colors look VERY good on the 767s, along with their winglets, by the way.

BTW, Air Jamaica also used to operate the a300 and a310 as well.

Thanks for the input. The Airbuses seem like they were in better shape than the 737's.

JM operated the A343s not the A342s.

Correct. Add the A319 to that list as well.

Yes they did but in a more updated livery:

Yup, sad to see that livery go even though it was just for show, I think it suited the 737 quite well IMO.

How so? Care to explain? I havent been on either of the JM airbuses or 737's since the merger. I must also note that the 737s are much newer than the 737's Caribbean operates except maybe 1 or 2 aircraft.

I cannot tell you exact age of the fleets but when I flew the A321 a few years ago they felt very new and comfortable and extremely clean. Flying to MBJ on the 737 it just seemed very old and outdated. flying from MBJ-JFK had a slightly younger 737, but overall there 737 fleet felt really cramped.

So no more of the new JM colors? I really liked them! I like both colors but JM's just a bit more.

When Delta Air Lines got rid of the A310 fleet several were leased or sold to Air Jamaica, was around 1995 I think.

They didn't merge, BWIA was shut down on the 31st December 2006 and on the 1st January Caribbean Airlines began. Loyalty whilst absorbing the Air Jamaica fleet wasn't a factor, it came down to the figures and what made the most commercial sense.

Alas no, JM never flew the A340-200. As mentioned they had 3 A340-300s, which were nicknamed "Atlantic Limousines" as they were principally used on flights from KIN and MBJ to LHR and, for a time, MAN.

Also true, in fact the A310-300s were used on the trans-atlantic routes before the A340s came aboard. I believe that they had A310s a bit earlier than 1995. The A340s came in around 1997.

None whatsoever as others here have stated. In addition to JFK, the A343s did KIN-YYZ at times as well, but was used primarily on the LHR and MAN route when they were around.

It was a mixture where JMs past airbus fleet was concerned. Some were newer than some. Personally I am an airbus fan so always prefered them to the B737s. Only B738 I have ever flown on is AA. Was OK, but give me B6s A320s anyday over it.

Makes two of us. Miss seeing/flying on those birds period.

Correct as well. The A310s started replacing the A300s in late 1994.

JM's colors actually have color! I saw 6Y-JMA a few weeks ago and she kept the JM scheme, only with BW titles.

Air Jamaica took 6 A310-300 from Delta that were ex-Pan AM airplanes to replace their 727-200 and A300 airplanes.

So they're doing what UA and CO did. That's ok because I am seemingly the only person on this wdbsote that actually like how thw CO scheme looms with UA titles. I do, however, wish that they would just leave the planes in the current scheme. Not only do I love them both, but it makes it onteresting to find out with colorscheme your flight is going to be operated by,lime on B6 or F9, or even NK!
